TravelSafe Classic
Hard to review because we didn't need to make a claim. Hopefully we never need to do so but from experience, we once were stuck at disney in January when the snow was bad nation wide and could not get out of FL for 3 days. Our trip insurance covered everything and since then, we've never traveled without trip insurance.

Travel insurance seems like a good idea but what good is it when you can't get a call through when you need help? My flight was canceled due to weather. With help from the airline I was able to find a flight to the same destination from a "nearby" airport. However, that would have left my car at an airport far away from my return flight. I wanted to find out if they would cover transportation to get me back home. When I tried to call Travel Safe they were unable to take my call due to the high volume of calls they were receiving. I left a message as requested but never got a call back the next day as promised ...or ever. I ended up getting friends to drive us to and from the airports so we wouldn't have our car stranded. I didn't file a claim because I couldn't get through to a representative in a timely fashion. Travel Safe, there was plenty of warning that weather was going to cause delays and cancellations - you need more staff to handle the phones at these times!

The claim service was very slow. Part of what we submitted was denied without citing the specific policy provision relied upon for denial.

    The claim process does appear slow to many travelers. TravelSafe required you to submit your Notice of Claim within 20 days of your loss. However, the claim representative does not review and determine coverage until he has received all forms. This review period may add up to 30 days to the entire claim process, so it may take up to 60 days from the date you first filed your claim until you receive payment.

    As you requested, we did follow up on the unpaid portion of your claim. Under Trip Interruption you were eligible to receive reimbursement for the unused portion of your prepaid non-refundable accommodations and “Additional Transportation Cost” which “means the actual cost incurred for one way Economy Transportation by Common Carrier reduced by the value of an unused travel ticket”.
    Mileage reimbursement for use of your own vehicle was not a covered expense so you did not receive reimbursement for that portion of your claim.

TravelSafe Classic Plus
Unfortunately had to cancel our pricey trip to Deer Valley ski resort in Utah due to my wife's slipped disk in her neck requiring surgery. Our booking was paid in full with a 45 day cancellation requirement or lose entire cost. The TravelSafe policy reimbursed us 100% after submitting a reasonable amount of paperwork, and we received the checks in a few weeks time. I haven't always purchased insurance for every trip, but I will now.

    Thank you for your 4+ Star Review for the TravelSafe plan. However, you did mention that it would have allowed you to cancel "for whatever reason you couldn't go." Actually Trip Cancellation would have allowed you to cancel your trip prior to your departure but only for a "covered reason". The number one covered reason in all plans is the unexpected sickness, injury or death of you, a traveling companion or a family member, but there are other covered reasons to cancel that may vary between plans. You can review the list of covered reasons by clicking on the dollar amount of Trip Cancellation coverage when comparing your quotes.

We did not have to file a claim, but came very close, due to being delayed and almost stranded for days in the Northeast, due to the Goliath winter storm. When the possibility of becoming stranded became a real possibility, due to delayed and canceled flights all around us, I contacted TravelSafe Customer Service in order to confirm our coverage, in case we needed it.

The Customer Service Representative I spoke with was professional and competent. He answered all of my questions and I felt confident that, had we had to utilize our travel insurance and file a claim, we had the needed coverage and that our needs would be met (and covered).

We will not hesitate to purchase a TravelSafe insurance policy in the future.
