We were unable to take our trip because of an unplanned surgery. We were contacted by the claims department representative in a very timely manner. The claims representative provided their business email and phone information, but never responded to any of my email or phone messages related to completing the claim form and accompanying paperwork. Although that was frustrating, I must have responded satisfactorily to the claims form questions because we received a check for the full amount of our claim in 6 weeks. By the way, I submitted all the claims paperwork as email attachments rather than faxing or mailing between 20 and 30 documents!

There was some terrorist activity going on the day we were suppose to leave for our trip. It involved Turkey but because this was not on our itinerary they would not allow us to cancel. Said it had to happen in one of our ports of call. When I asked how do we deal with getting back home if an attack happened she said you would pay up front and submit for refund when get home. So bottom line is you better have a lot of credit available. Not at all like I thought it would work.

    Thank you for your review regarding terrorism coverage. As you indicated that, in order to be a covered terrorist incident under the InsureAssist TravCan (as well as all our other plans), the terrorist act must occur in a city listed on your itinerary. The plans also require that the act that causes property damage or loss of life must be deemed a terrorist act by the United States Government.

    With respect to getting home if a terrorist attack occurred during the trip, as InsureAssist indicated, you would pay up front and be reimbursed later, but it is also important to note and that saving documentation, receipts, etc. would be critical.

    In the future, you may wish to call us at 800-487-4722 for quotes since there are plans that provide broader definitions of coverage as well as plans that offer Cancel for Any Reason coverage.

AXA covered the cost of medical care and early return home after I was injured in Italy. I will use AXA again!

My wife had medical problems and required hospitalization as well as a medical return flight. Dealing with AXA to get moved to a different hospitalization and then to get a medical flight home was a nightmare. They said we just need the attending physician to confirm that she is stable enough to fly but not strong enough to go on a commercial flight. That was done an then seven days later they were able to arrange a flight. The company that flew us home said that when they were finally contacted it took twenty minutes to put the pieces together, not seven days.
It almost appears that they were just waiting and hoping that the patient would either die or become too weak to fly on a medical flight.
In addition, they do not seem to have people capable of speaking foreign languages. They should not be in business.

AIG Travel Guard Basic
AIG rejected my claim for travel insurance for our cancelled trip to Italy due to a back problem. I was given different reasons for my rejection and it took 10 months to get my final rejection. I talked with 8 different AIG Travel staff including the President of the company. There were several delays in responses every step of the way in my appeal. Misinformation was given to the NYS Dept. of Finance by AIG. My treatment was unethical and I would never recommend this company to anyone.

With the problem in Paris and the fact I had to change plans in Paris on Sunday and needed to know what assistance and coverage I had if I was delayed. I called on Saturday your 24 hour hotline and was told to call back on Monday. That is not responsible.
