Arch RoamRight Preferred

The Arch RoamRight Preferred plan is a mid-tier comprehensive travel insurance plan. It has several options not offered on the Essential plan, allowing for a more customizable product.

The Preferred plan features trip cancellation, baggage protection and travel medical benefits. With this plan, the travel medical limit is higher than what is offered by the Essential plan. The plan also features a pre-existing condition exclusion waiver if you are eligible.

This plan allows you to choose the Accidental Death & Dismemberment with which you are most comfortable. This is the amount that a beneficiary of your choice would receive in the event that the worst were to happen during your trip.

Like all Arch RoamRight plans, children traveling with an adult may be added at no additional premium. One child, age 17 or under, is covered at no additional charge for each covered adult.

This plan can be personalized to satisfy your specific travel insurance needs with several additional options:

  • Cancel for Any Reason (may not be available in all states)
  • Cancel for Work Reasons
  • Rental car collision coverage
  • Baggage protection upgrade
  • Medical and evacuation coverage upgrade (may not be available in all states)

If you choose to add a Cancel for Any Reason benefit, you will be allowed to cancel your trip up to 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure date for any reason, not just those listed as a covered reason on the plan. It can reimburse you up to 75% of the insured trip cost. Cancel for Work Reasons allows you to cancel your trip due to one of the listed work related reasons on the plan. These optional coverages require purchase within 21 days of your initial trip payment and may not be available to residents of all states.

This review is hard to write. The plan was very reasonably priced. I chose to use this as opposed to the cruise lines protection plan for mainly two reasons. Reason 1) you get cash in the event of a cancellation as opposed to a "future cruise credit". Additionally, it was cheaper. Of course, I didn't plan on using the insurance, just like I haven't in the past. Unfortunately, I had to use the cancel for any reason option. It took about 4 weeks after I submitted the claim and I got an email stating they needed an additional document. I submitted it within a few days. It took an additional 5 weeks to get the claim processed and paid. I called a couple times and the hold time for a representative was around an hour. I didn't wait. Logic tells you if they phones are busy, the representatives are busy answering the phone, not paying claims. So I didn't want to contribute to the delay. I did end up speaking to a representative when wait times were low, she was very nice, and she said the claim should be processed in a few days. I waited about 10 days and called back. Wait times were low, spoke to a different very nice female. She said she would follow up and email me the next day. I did not hear back. However the following day from when I should have heard back (so 2 days after the call) I got an automated email and the claim was processed. The check was obviously mailed the same day as I got the check 2 days after the email. In short, the value is great, customer service is nice. Long wait times on the phone and long processing times for the claim. For the value, I would consider using again if they remain the best bang for the buck compared to others. If the prices start lining up with other companies, I would likely use someone else.

I actually used this insurance. My friend and I were going to Costa Rica but she got metastatic liver cancer, stage 4, within 2 months of us leaving and could no longer walk. Arch travel insurance did refund our expenses. It took A LOT of paper work, i.e. Doctors notes, all cancelled plans and hotel reservations, multiple emails, snail mail, phone calls. I understand why they need the forms to prevent scamming, but we did jump thru multiple hoops. I would use this insurance company again..they did pay. When you use insurance, please remember to save all receipts, Doctor forms, etc because you will need them. However, all insurance travel companies do this. They were very polite on the phone and I would use them again.
