TruTravel Insurance Economy

The TruTravel Economy plan is a budget-friendly option if you will be going on a trip costing less than $10,000 per person. If your trip will cost more than $10,000 per person, you may want to review the TruTravel Premier plan, which offers trip cost coverage up to $75,000 per person.

Whether your trip is a long weekend getaway, a week-long visit to a relative’s house several states away, or a trek across the country, the TruTravel Economy plan can help in the event your travels don’t go as planned. You may be booking several flights with connections, hotels and purchasing tickets to events. The costs add up quickly.

This plan offers trip cancellation coverage for a list of covered perils that travelers may face, the number one being an unforeseen illness or injury. Reimbursement would be up to 100% of the pre-paid non-refundable trip cost if you had to cancel prior to departure for a covered reason.

The Economy plan offers emergency medical benefits which could reimburse medical bills due to covered treatment during your trip. Also, a 24-hour emergency assistance service phone line is available, whether you are within or outside of the U.S., with representatives that can help find the nearest medical facility and assist with making emergency travel arrangements.

My wife unexpectedly required major surgery necessitating cancellation of our back to back cruise out of San Juan. Cruise line reimbursed 50% of cruise cost but airline was not refundable. I submitted a claim and within 15 business days I received a check covering outstanding monies including travel agent cancellation fee. My previous experience with a different travel insurance provider was much more difficult. TruTravel was first class.

So reassuring to be covered and not to need to use it! I'll will use this site for quotes in the future.

The Plan, for what it was, appeared reasonable. In the end, no one wants to ever have to use such a Plan -- because that means there was a nightmare with luggage, or a flight, or a medical issue...none of which any of us want to occur. I did read a review where someone 'lost' a watch and it was replaced. I was encouraged, as my cell phone was stolen on the trip (and not out of the hotel room, or out of the car -- but literally right out of my wife's hands!) -- but when I read the policy, there on the 'Exclusions' list was #20 = cell phones...no payment for any loss or damage. So, I will admit that was disappointing. There were other exclusions that I acknowledge I did not read before I purchased the policy -- but who knows what to anticipate, especially if we are not experienced travelers! I presume that if any of the horrible events had occurred, for which I did purchase the insurance, there would have been appropriate coverage and response by the company...I am glad none of them did.
