John Hancock Gold
I filed a claim because one day of my trip was rerouted due to security problems in Ethiopia and I incurred a loss. I received the maximum daily allowance for this itinerary change from John Hancock. When I called John Hancock about the claim, once in Ethiopia and once when I got home, each time the agent was courteous and competent. After sending my documentation, the check arrived in about 2 weeks.

    Political, Military or Civil Unrest at your destination or acts of War are specifically excluded under Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption on all comprehensive policies on our site. To obtain cancellation coverage for these concerns, you would need to purchase a policy that included Cancel For Any Reason.

    There are typically 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 -72 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, this benefit will typically reimburse you 75% of your trip cost, unless otherwise noted.

Generali Global Assistance Standard
Not sure if I would recommend CSA to others. I had no problems on this trip but a fellow traveler did, and she was insured by CSA also. When she became ill, it took a long time for her to receive the help she obviously needed.

TravelSafe Classic Plus
We canceled this trip. The policy was a "cancel for any reason" policy. I filed the requested paperwork immediately, and both the claim and documentation were straightforward and uncomplicated, consisting of only 2 receipts. TravelSafe stalled and delayed repeatedly; my claim was not even evaluated, much less paid, until after an InsureMyTrip rep intervened. InsureMy Trip was great; TravelSafe was not.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Basic
I had to adjust our travel dates two times before we left, and this was easily accomplished. Once I telephoned AIG staff, who were very helpful and courteous; the other time I made the change on-line.
