Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
We researched several of these travel insurance companies to insure our non-refundable, costly plane tickets. Nationwide Mutual received good reviews online so we went with it. Fortunately, we didn't need the insurance plan, but we were glad to have it for peace of mind.

Allianz Global Assistance Basic
This is the first time I have had to file a claim despite using Allianz a number of times to insure my trips. The claims process is agonizingly slow and bureaucratic. For example: they require that the claim naturally include "proof of payment" without any specific definition. I sent my invoice for the trip from the tour company which showed the total cost of the trip 9287.04USD; the total amount paid 9287.04USD and the total amount due 0USD. That wasn't good enough. Many days later I was informed that I must submit copies of my credit card showing payment and including the last 4 digits of the card used. It would have been helpful to have this info at the start. Telephone calls to Allianz staff were less then helpful. I finally demanded to speak to someone "in charge" and was referred to Alan. He was extremely helpful and expedited the "decision process".

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing customercare@insuremytrip.com, explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.

RoamRight Essential
Due to an unexpected medical issue, we had to cancel our trip. Roam Right representatives walked me patiently through the claims process. I filed my claim online seamlessly with all the details as outlined by the representative and received payment in the mail within 21 days. Very nice! Highly recommended.

April Travel Protection Choice
We are always happy that we don't have to collect on trip insurance. This trip was closest .
My husband went 2 days before our trip with chest pains . He felt sure acid reflex .
However , went ER . They did all blood work and no indication heart .However, we are both 75 and he didn't have stress test in 30 years so they suggested staying overnight for nuclear stress test . He did .
We knew that we could cancel trip but we wanted to go an a small boat (50 rooms) on adventure cruise of hiking , Kayaking, and whale watching (humpback and killer) ,etc .
I left the hospital few hours and my daughter and I came home and did a lot of " house preparation " for 10 day trip. Then returned hospital and left early evening and packed for both of us. I went back to hospital . Test results good . He was able to drive us home before he went and got gas , haircut, pick up RX , etc. next morning left 6:30 AM for flight and our trip . Had a great 10 day vacation!

Only suggestion is when purchase trip insurance thru April and don't use that get small credit for future purchase trip insurance .
