My wife had a health issue that arose about a week before our trip. I called your claim office because I needed clarity about the coverage in case it was determined by our doctor that we would have to cancel the trip.

The person I spoke to could not give us clarity as to whether our claim would be honored. I don't think our request was unreasonable. If the doctor had told us that surgery was needed sooner rather than later or that my wife would not be healthy enough to make the trip, we would have had to cancel. I would have like clarity from your staff. Instead, all they would tell me was that a decision regarding coverage could not be made until after a claim was filed. I did not find this helpful.

Luckily, my wife's doctor told her that she could postpone the surgery until after we returned from the trip, so we didn't have to cancel. However, I hope you can empathize with our situation.

    With all travel insurance products, the claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately, in no event can a claim be pre-determined, as you would be required to provide Proof of Loss to determine appropriate coverage.

    The Generali Global Assistance Preferred plan has the following number one covered reason to cancel or interrupt your trip:

    "The Sickness, Injury or death of you, your Family Member, your Traveling Companion or your Service Animal. The Sickness or Injury must first commence while your coverage is in effect under the Policy, must require the in-person treatment by a Physician, and must be so disabling in the written opinion of a Physician as to prevent you from taking your Trip (either because your condition prevents your travel, or because your Family Member, Traveling Companion or your Service Animal requires your care);"

    This plan will exclude:

    "Sickness or Injury during the 180-day period immediately prior to your
    effective date for which you or your Traveling Companion:
    (1) received, or received a recommendation for, a diagnostic test, examination, or medical treatment; or
    (2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.

    Item 2 of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 180-day period before coverage
    is effective under this Policy."

didn't need to file a claim, but peace of mind was worth the price in that we booked trip months in advance and anything can happen. Trip insurance is generally expensive and this policy seemed to be the best price for comprehensive coverage

I did not have to file a claim and glad I didn’t. I contacted customer service with questions as I have never purchased a policy before. They were helpful. Reputation of company is based on how they handle claims and provide transparency in their denial process. I got lucky this time

Didn’t need to use the coverage, thank God, but glad to know I had it. I do have questions because you can’t “list” all the countries you visit, and that leaves me questioning whether the coverage is valid for all countries on a trip.

Travelex Travel Basic
I read the plan through and was satisfied that the coverage would fit with the trip I planned. I was very happy with the flexibility that was offered as I added flights and destinations to my original trip. It was never a problem and the expanded coverage was always easy to obtain. I also was happy I did not have to test this the plan as I never needed to use it.
