Nationwide Mutual Insurance Universal Cruise
We were taking 17 people on a week-long cruise so it was imperative that we have coverage in case something were to happen to interrupt or interfere with one of all of our vacation plans. While we were fortunate and didn't have to use the plan, just having complete coverage certainly went a long way to ease the stress I was feeling.

Allianz Global Assistance Basic
I took out this travel insurance for peace of mind. Fortunately, I had no need to use it, so I cannot provide a realistic review of the service. I will say that it appeared to cover what we needed that we received timely communication regarding our coverage just prior to our trip.

We purchased travel insurance for our holiday cruise as a precaution because my grandfather fell ill and was in the hospital. I've never purchased insurance before, but thank goodness we did! My grandfather was fine, but days before we were suppose to leave, my husband started passing 1 of 3 giant kidney stones, making him unable to travel from the debilitating pain and possible need for surgery. All of the forms were very easy to fill out and the AXA team was very helpful. The people traveling with us also cancelled their trip, but they had a different insurance provider and plan and didn't get their flights refunded. I will never book a trip without AXA travel insurance again. So worth it!

With your policy of not returning funds for a trip that was cancelled months in advance (even before payment was due on the cruise ship) is just a complete rip off.
ESPECIALLY for repeat customers. Be assured you have lost our business and anyone we used to refer to you in the future. The worst customer service I have ever received. I don't even know how you are still in business but I can assure you that from me alone over a lifetime of cruising that you are losing $1,000's of dollars. Now add in our friends and referrals? We all be cruising the Mediterranean this summer and will happily NOT be using YOU. I would say yes to the box below on contacting me but you ignored my request for months to call me back about this issue so I know it is a joke. You don't even have customer service!

    "All premium is non-refundable after a 10 day review period."

    After reviewing your request to cancel the policy for a refund of premium, the Underwriter stood by the terms and conditions of the policy.

Didn't think i would need to use it, but it turned out I did and the process was very smooth. I just sent in the receipts along with the form and the check was in the mail in a short period of time. Will use them again for our future trips and will recommend them to all our friends and family.

So my policy covered lost items in my case, or so I thought. I explained the situation to Nationwide via telephone and the rep was confident I would be reimbursed, so she sent a claim form. I provided all documentation and original receipts, including my new purchase receipt to replace the lost item. After filing a claim with Nationwide, I got the following response for a pair of $30.50 fins that were lost. Nationwide's response was:
"The policy purchased specifically excludes coverage for 'mysterious disappearance' and 'imprudent action or omission."
Why have a policy that claims to cover "lost" items when EVERY response to a lost item logically could fall under "mysterious disappearance" or "imprudent action or omission." (My item was left behind while waiting for a taxi at the beach- the taxi was late, we were on the other side of the island, needing to get back to a cruise ship).
I contacted InsureMyTrip after my denial. I was told a representative would telephone me the next business day. After waiting almost two weeks and not hearing back I posted the review.
A Senior Representative from InsureMyTrip did call quickly after I submitted my review. He was sincerely apologetic since no one followed and he contacted Nationwide immediately and went to bat for me in this case. Despite his efforts, Nationwide held firm and gave some excuses/reasons that did not fit the claim I am told- I should have filed with other companies first, but I did not lose the item in their property.

However, InsureMyTrip emailed and told me they are going to cover the cost of the fins which they did not have to do!

I've booked/recommended many other people/couples through InsureMyTrip and they have always been professional AND competent- in dealing with them from booking insurance, asking questions after booking, or having to inquire about claims. That is a rarity these days. Thank you.

Side notes: I could have called back to follow up myself but I am dealing back and forth with a few other companies (unrelated) for myself and other people and just got tired of it all, so I submitted a review first. My ratings for the plan are based on the claim denial. I would advise to call them and speak to the actual claims person if you have any questions prior to booking your insurance. Also, consult the list of exclusions for lost/stolen items. Thank you
