Since I did not have to use the insurance this time no complaints. I have tried to use before but it is too hard to meet all the specific requirements. If I am paying for medical coverage abroad, that ins should pay first especially since Medicare will not cover anything outside the USA and should pay the bills direct to the medical facility. We have had to pay ourself in the past because we could not obtain all the correct paper work.

    Thank you for your comments on "secondary" medical coverage. However, we would like to take this opportunity to point out several benefits that were included in your CSA Custom plan.

    (1) CSA did provide "secondary" medical which would have required you to first submit your claim to any other primary collectible insurance policy. If the primary provider denied payment but it proved to be a covered medical expense under your secondary coverage plan, then CSA would have reimbursed you on a primary basis.

    (2) CSA offered ON DEMAND MEDICAL CARE through their
    Teladoc network (formerly Consult A Doctor TM) which offers 24/7 access to its proprietary nationwide
    cross-coverage network of U.S. licensed physicians for telephone and secure e-mail medical consultations.

    (3) CSA also offered "No Out-of-Pocket Medical Expense". If you had developed an acute illness while on your trip that required treatment by a physician, you could have called the
    Emergency Hotline to obtain the name of a local qualified physician in the assistance provider’s network. If an in-network physician was available, the assistance provider would have scheduled the medical visit and guaranteed payment to the physician for a medical visit not to exceed 1000 USD for covered medical conditions.

    (4) The CSA assistance provider also offered Interpretation/Translation services. The assistance provider would have assisted with telephone interpretation in all major languages or would have referred you to an interpretation or translation service for written documents.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Basic
Not having to use the plan (yay! isn't that why we buy insurance?) I can't be a good judge of its effectiveness But, It was easy to purchase, reasonably priced and added to our sense of security while we travelled.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I unfortunately had to cancel my trip due to injury. The claim process was straightforward; I was able to submit the documentation via email; and it was processed and I was paid within a couple of weeks. I wish I'd been able to go on the trip, but I'm glad I had this insurance when I wasn't.

Fortunately we had no use for the policy in regard to our trip. For me it was important to have as my Medicare is worthless out of the country. Only note is I later found the identical plan offered a few bucks cheaper through our travel company.

AXA Assistance USA Gold
Filed the claim immediately upon the return of the trip for a delay at the beginning of the trip. From time of filing claim until received reimbursement it took, 62 days. All of the information was provided at the time of the claim. No additional information was requested. Movement on the claim only happened when I contacted AXA. Originally said that the review would be completed in 30 days (actually took 35 after I contacted on day 32). The claim was approved and instructed that the check would be received in 10-15 business days. On day 16 contacted AXA, and it took another 10 business days to have the check processed and received. Again, this only occurred after I contacted AXA and it took at least 4 more calls before they processed the check.
