Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
The plan seemed competitively priced, although not inexpensive. I did need to file a claim due to missed flights, and lost luggage.
We incurred meal expenses, a minor clothing expense, and lost a night of hotel. The total claim was around $300. I filed about 3 weeks after our trip. I submitted about 6 attachments as proof. Several weeks later, after emailing several times, asking about the status of my claim, I received an email asking for more information. I sent the same documents as well as many more, with a detailed explanation of each attachment to make it simpler for the person reviewing the claim. They also asked for 2 of their forms to be filled out, which I attached. Again, several weeks went by, I emailed and requested my claim be paid. I received ANOTHER request for the same information, stating that they were waiting for the forms which they had previously requested as well as a lot of other information, of which I had already submitted several weeks prior! I was going to call and request that someone actually look at all the data I submitted. I was stealing myself for a long, adversarial phone call, so was waiting until I had time. About a week passed and I received an email from my bank showing a Zelle payment for the full amount of my claim. No email from AXA insurance. Interesting.....
AXA is no better, no worse than other companies for which I have had to make a claim. I think they all drag the claim process out, hoping you will give up so they don't have to pay. They also ask for an exorbitant amount of information. Trip insurance is something that I feel I have to have for most international trips, but I dread having to make a claim. Luckily I didn't have to interact with an agent in this case and they eventually paid my claim. Keep every receipt, every boarding pass, etc in case you have to make a claim!

The plan was cost efficient and covered what I wanted covered. My claim was settled fairly; in fact they reimbursed me for more than the amount I claimed, as they discovered I was due a bit more. The only part of the coverage that was not satisfactory was the Teladoc service. We did try to access it while traveling internationally, but it was cumbersome, confusing and did not ultimately provide us with the medical advice needed.

We happened to be in Madagascar when there was civil unrest with demonstrations in the streets of Tana that resulted in at least one death. There were also organized and spontaneous strikes by various groups of workers.
We were on an organized trip with an itinerary. Minutes before one flight, it and 2 others due to leave Tana at the same time were cancelled. We saw the crews of the 3 planes walking together to the terminal, talking to each other. It seemed clear to us that they had decided to strike. The result was that we could not reach our destination that night and no flight was scheduled for the next day. We had to return to our hotel and charter a plane the next day to resume our itinerary at our cost (approximately $1000).
We put in a claim to Generali Global Assistance with newspaper evidence of the unrest in the country at the time we were there. They rejected our claim because the trip interruption was not caused by an organized strike. They also cited an exclusion to Trip Interruption: civil disorder.
We were the victims of an arbitrary flight cancellation by Air Madagascar which gave the reason for the cancellation as "shortage of personnel". This cancellation, which was beyond our control, was why we took out a policy that included Trip Interruption.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn of the events that occurred and interrupted your trip. The representatives at Generali Global Assistance informed us that the claims were adjudicated in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy. We hope that fellow customers find your review and our reply educational.
Comprehensive plans are designed to cover as many risks as possible, but is very rare for any insurance plan to cover all possible risks. Civil unrest is a typical exclusion on any Comprehensive plan. In fact, that event would not covered under normal Trip Interruption with any company that we represent. Some of the plans that we offer include "Interruption for Any Reason" for 75% reimbursement as long as you have been on your trip for at least 48-72 hours. For more information about these plans, please call us at InsureMyTrip.
We strongly recommend customers read the terms and conditions of the policy within the review period to determine if the policy fits your needs. If the policy does not fit your needs, it can be cancelled within the review period for a refund of premium. We can be reached at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions or concerns.
AXA did not respond in to the claim within the time they promised(30 days)after the receipt of our claim. After 30 days we called and were promised a response by the end of the day. 3 days later there was still no response. Called again and promised a call back within an hour. Over 2 hours passed and still no call back. Called them again and was promised a response within 48 hours. 3 days later we received a request for more information, some of which we had provided when we filed our claim. We received a check today, 77 days after we filed our claim. Poor customer service, but at least they paid eventually.

We do want you and your fellow customers to be aware that InsureMyTrip offers a Customer Advocate Program. Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any difficulties you may have experienced in filing a claim and getting a service response. Please note that you can also request a supervisor when your expectations have not been met and we work very closely with the IMT Customer Advocate program. I am sorry your service experience did not live up to expectations but hope that you will consider us for future travel endeavors.
World Expeditions cancelled my trip to Madagascar because of a serious outbreak of pneumonic plague. April stated that I wasn't covered if I didn't go because the island wasn't totally quarantined. BUT if I DID decide to go they ALSO told me I wasn't covered because I was aware of the risk before going. THAT is a catch 22 that sounds like over reaching to me and I am following up with a complaint to the Commissioner of Insurance New York State.

I didn't have to file a claim, so I cannot comment on that end of things. It was easy to purchase the policy and it seemed to cover the things I was interested in covering for a third world trip.
