Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
We luckily didn't have any issues and didn't need to use the plan but it was nice to receive the updated email right before the trip that reminded us of our coverage and links and gave us the phone numbers we needed. Since you might not have WiFi on the cruise ship, make sure to screenshot those phone numbers.

Great product for protection against unexpected Medical expenses while in a foreign Country and far away from home. However, the document is not specific as to whether the coverage is primary or secondary. I bought primary but I was not comfortable with the way the document leaves that to interpretation. I believe it should be more clear in case of a claim. I had not such a great experience with a claim from a previous trip. When I asked for the claim documents, the representative told me that I had secondary coverage when in fact it was primary. That’s why I believe that the product document should be more specific about the subject.

Your TripAssure plan did provide you with 50,000 USD in primary medical coverage. Although travel insurance plans are indemnity based, your primary medical coverage would reimburse you for your out of pocket medical expenses incurred during the trip on a first dollar basis.
Nevertheless, your travel insurance plan is a legal contract, so you will find terms and conditions that may be confusing. Please be sure to take the time to carefully read your policy and call either TripAssure or InsureMyTrip with any questions.
Living in a hurricane prone area and also going to a hurricane prone area, I purchased the insurance just in case a named storm was to threated my home town and/or the location of my vacation. I understand after I bought the insurance, you'll do not offer protection if the plane still flew and the hotel was to stay open even it the named storm was to hit that area. If my home town was possibly being threaten by a storm right before my trip, and/or during my trip, I would not have gone on the trip! Same thing at the resort location. This is why I bought the insurance.

We understand that our customers never wish to hear that there would be no coverage under their policy. However, in order to receive reimbursement for canceling your trip, the reason for cancellation must be a named peril as listed in the policy. These covered reasons will vary from plan to plan and will determine coverage, such as, the following perils as listed in your Nationwide Essential policy;
"You or a Traveling Companion... having Your principal place of residence made Uninhabitable by fire, flood, volcano, earthquake, hurricane or other natural disaster...; or a
Natural disaster at the site of Your destination that renders Your destination accommodations Uninhabitable...;
Weather that causes complete cessation of services of the Common Carrier for at least twenty-four (24) consecutive hours and prevents You from reaching Your destination. This benefit will not apply if the potential natural disaster has been forecasted
or a storm has been named prior to purchase of this coverage..."
Since these covered reasons do vary from plan to plan, travelers should always review this information which can be found under View Certificate prior to purchasing the policy.
We are sorry for your disappointment with your plan. Since coverage significantly differs from plan to plan, please consider calling us for assistance with your future travel.
I traveled to DR in September 2018 and purchased this insurance a few months before my trip. We were worried about hurricane season and had many active storms brewing before our trip. Luckily, none of them affected our travels and we had a great vacation. I can't comment on the actual plan and claim since I didn't file one so I have no idea how it would turn out if our vacation was ruined. I did have a peace of mind though with this insurance.

It is great to hear that your trip was not interrupted by any tropical storm or hurricane. However, this would be a good time to point out that Trip Cancellation would have reimbursed you for your prepaid nonrefundable travel expenses but only if your trip is canceled for a covered reason as specifically listed in the policy.
These covered reasons may vary from company to company, plan to plan or even by state. The number one covered reason under most plans would be the unexpected sickness, injury or death of You, your Traveling Companion or Family Member. Your TripAssure Advantage Asset plan also included the following as covered reasons:
"t. a cancellation of Your Trip within 24 hours of Your Scheduled Departure Date and time if Your Trip departure or destination city is under a hurricane warning issued by the NOAA National Hurricane Center provided the cancellation occurs more than 14 days following Your Effective Date of coverage for Trip Cancellation;
u. mandatory evacuation ordered by local government authorities at Your
Trip destination due to a Natural Disaster or a hurricane named after the Effective Date of Your coverage. You must have 50% or less of Your Trip length remaining at the time the mandatory evacuation ends in order to cancel or interrupt Your Trip and for this benefit to be payable;
v. a cancellation of Your Trip if Your arrival on the Trip is delayed and
causes You to lose 50% or more of the scheduled Trip duration due to the reasons covered under the Travel Delay Benefit..."
InsureMyTrip recommends that all travelers review the policy terms in your selected policy. Any item in blue print is a link to more detailed information. Please click on the dollar amount of Trip Cancellation in your plan to view and read the complete list of covered reasons.
I always insure when going out of the country and thankfully have never need it. This trip was wonderful and enjoyable. I do not wish to file a claim but was surprised to find that the baggage handlers at the Dominican Republic had opened and stolen gifts that I had purchased for my Grand children.

Fortunately, we did not have to file a claim while traveling on our Honeymoon. However, it brought a peace of mind to my wife and I knowing we were covered with such an affordable policy. Would definitely recommend this policy.
