Thankfully I did not have to claim. But after hours of research my impression was that Global Alert offers reliable coverage. Compared to other plans with similar coverage, I found their pricing competitive based on trip cancellation coverage for inclement weather (I was traveling in snow season) and also medical coverage/repatriation in/from another country. Also, my impression based on reading many consumer reviews was that you should expect a slow process (ie. months) if you have to make any claims other than cancellation of your entire trip. I would also recommend for your own peace of mind to purchase through InsureMyTrip to have an advocate to help and expediate the claims process in the event you do need to make a claim, especially with Global Alert. My review is based solely on the ordering process and what I felt it would cover if we needed. On paper, it looks like a good plan. I did call to see if we would be covered if we cancel because Jamaica was added to the CDC list for Zika and I was told no. It ended up being a nonissue, but that is probably something I will consider when purchasing travel insurance in the future.

I purchased this for peace of mind. I was traveling with someone else and wanted to make sure we had trip coverage in case we got sick and also if there was a long delay or if I were needed back home for a family illness. Nothing happened, it was a safe trip, However I felt better because I had insurance.

I wish I could have gotten coverage for pre-existing conditions even though I could not purchase soon enough after making a deposit on my trip. But I doubt that any insurer would have offered me that coverage as it seems to be a common requirement.

In order to have purchased this plan to include coverage for preexisting medical conditions, you would have had to purchase the Essential plan within 10 days of your Initial Trip Payment. Even if you had not made all your travel purchases for the entire trip, you could still have purchased the Essential policy for those travel expenses that you had booked to date. Then, as you booked the additional accommodations, you can call InsureMyTrip to add them to the policy. We would have quoted you the additional premium, if applicable, then asked you to confirm with an email. As in all trip insurance policies, no matter who the underwriter, there are gaps for specific circumstances. But overall, the Nationwide Mutual Choice Cruise policy covered 95% of what I wanted. Since I didn't make a claim, I can't comment on claim handling.

We had to cancel due to a family emergency 3 weeks before our trip. We could not have been more satisfied with the help and response we received from Nationwide. Our claim was processed quickly and easily. I would recommend them and in fact, will use them again in the future for our travel plans.

The travel insurance policy we purchased appeared to be a good one for our needs and was offered at a reasonable price, but since we didn't file a claim for an insurable event, we really can't give a reliable evaluation of the policy. Also, since we didn't file a claim, we really can't give a reliable evaluation of the insurance carrier's response.
