The plan offered the coverage I wanted at a competitive price. Since I didn't have to make a claim, I can't comment on how well the insurance company would have responded. I've used Insure My Trip several times to buy travel insurance and I like the convenience of being able to readily compare policies.

Sadly, I had to cancel my trip due to an illness. When I contacted Generali, the representative explained the process which was just how things proceeded. They sent a check for a full refund in a very timely manner.

It is hard to review something that I ( thankfully) did not have to use. It served its purpose in that I proceeded with the planned trip knowing that in an emergency I would be able to afford whatever was required.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector Plus
My claim was eventually paid after 9-12 weeks, but the experience was horrible. C&F's website apparently doesn't work properly (they alleged they couldn't see some uploaded documents that were in my claims folder, yet saw others of the same format with no problem.) It took multiple calls, emails, and complaints via the website help desk to get my unresponsive claim adjuster moving on my claim or to even respond to documentation. As an insurance claims professional (P&C) myself, I was incredibly displeased and it got to the point where I said I wanted all communication in writing in case I had to purse this further. Suddenly, my claim was paid. I had a previous travel insurance claim in 2013 with another carrier that went perfectly. I just cannot recommend C&F after this experience. The product is fine, the service is horrendous.

We always use Insure My Trip for our foreign travel. And, we always find a plan that fits what we need. Plans from our travel providers do not always work for us as we usually extend our trip before and after the escorted portion (if doing group travel) and usually we are doing the planning and the trip on our own. Have never had to make a claim, but once had to change our travel dates and that was easy to do although it took several days.

My wife had a health issue that arose about a week before our trip. I called your claim office because I needed clarity about the coverage in case it was determined by our doctor that we would have to cancel the trip.

The person I spoke to could not give us clarity as to whether our claim would be honored. I don't think our request was unreasonable. If the doctor had told us that surgery was needed sooner rather than later or that my wife would not be healthy enough to make the trip, we would have had to cancel. I would have like clarity from your staff. Instead, all they would tell me was that a decision regarding coverage could not be made until after a claim was filed. I did not find this helpful.

Luckily, my wife's doctor told her that she could postpone the surgery until after we returned from the trip, so we didn't have to cancel. However, I hope you can empathize with our situation.

    With all travel insurance products, the claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately, in no event can a claim be pre-determined, as you would be required to provide Proof of Loss to determine appropriate coverage.

    The Generali Global Assistance Preferred plan has the following number one covered reason to cancel or interrupt your trip:

    "The Sickness, Injury or death of you, your Family Member, your Traveling Companion or your Service Animal. The Sickness or Injury must first commence while your coverage is in effect under the Policy, must require the in-person treatment by a Physician, and must be so disabling in the written opinion of a Physician as to prevent you from taking your Trip (either because your condition prevents your travel, or because your Family Member, Traveling Companion or your Service Animal requires your care);"

    This plan will exclude:

    "Sickness or Injury during the 180-day period immediately prior to your
    effective date for which you or your Traveling Companion:
    (1) received, or received a recommendation for, a diagnostic test, examination, or medical treatment; or
    (2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.

    Item 2 of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 180-day period before coverage
    is effective under this Policy."
