Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
We always look for the highest medical and medical evac coverage, as that is where the real money can be protected. Went on a cruise, and a lot of the passengers were suffering from falls on the ship due to rough seas. Medical costs from a ship's doctor / med center are VERY costly, and many of those passengers has huge bills for treatment / medical devices (slings, crutches, walkers, etc). Many USA health plans and Medicare can be near-worthless when you leave the country. We always get insurance, always to include pre-existing conditions, and we buy it within the guidelines to protect the pre-existing condition coverage. Don't leave home without it.

We bought this insurance for our cruise in Sept. 2018 , 1day before we were scheduled to leave we had to cancel do to a medical emergency . We called and filed a claim immediately . The insurance company sent us all the required forms via email . We sent everything back in and with a few little bumps the claim was processed .I got my refund check today. If you buy this insurance please keep all receipts for your payments made for your trip because they will be asking for them

Much, much too expensive! Outrageous! Not easy to use and discourages use. My wife was seriously ill and hospitalized for 6 days just prior to the trip but filing a claim would have been substantially difficult and burdensome, so, she summoned up what strength she had and we went on the cruise. She was in pain, and uncomfortable throughout the trip and she did not get off the cruse ship until we reached our home port.

"(a) Sickness, Accidental Injury or death of You, a Traveling Companion, or Family Member which results in medically
imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of Loss preventing Your participation in the Trip. A Physician
must advise cancellation of the Trip on or before the Scheduled Departure Date;"
It would be standard procedure with any travel insurance policy that you would have to file a claim in order to be compensated for Trip Cancellation.
