Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
The sales process was very courteous and professional.
I did not have a claim, and was very pleased with the way I was treated throughout the purchase process.
Of course, the proof of the pudding is how claims are handled, so I hope and trust that if I had filed a claim, it would similarly be handled helpfully and professionally.

Our trip in March 2020 was interrupted due to water service being suspended in Cairo due to overwhelming rains. We were told that we were not covered for this since we were already on our trip. A few months ago we were contacted by IMG and told we could file a claim. We were lucky that we had kept all of our emails and receipts from our travel company and airlines. After many emails sending materials requested by IMG they reviewed our trip and we thought we received a very fair settlement for the portion of our trip missed. Knowing the process now, we will look at IMG for our next trip.

Glad I didn't have to use it, but I thought I might need it a couple of times. Once, when our luggage was delayed several days upon returning home. We were among the last groups to leave Israel before the travel bans were put in place. We were not sure we would not be detained somewhere on our flights home.

Fortunately I did not need to use it. There were 3 of us on the tour of 38 persons that had our luggage all the way through. All the rest had to go home w/o their checked luggage! So thankful I had mine!!

I always buy trip insurance before international trips, but I have never needed to file a claim before now. I bought the Travelex Travel Basic plan for a trip that we were supposed to take to Israel, but we were forced to cancel the trip due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions: Israel is requiring all travelers to self-quarantine for 14 days, and that would be impossible for us in a foreign country. I knew that the insurance policy would not cover coronavirus specifically, but the policy did indicate that it would cover certain "Unforeseen Events" causing trip cancellation or interruption, and one of those events was "You, or a Traveling Companion are hijacked, quarantined, subpoenaed, or required to serve on a jury." However, when I called Travelex they said that quarantine in this case only applies if we were quarantined at home and could not take the trip for that reason.
I understand that the coronavirus situation is unusual and that insurance companies don't want to pay out for all the trips that have had to be canceled as a result of travel restrictions, but I feel that there should be allowances made for these unforeseen events. If a traveler cannot make the trip because the country you are traveling to will not allow you in unless you can prove that you can self-quarantine for 2 weeks, the "quarantine" clause of the policy should allow for at least partial reimbursement of the cost of the trip.

We appreciate you providing your feedback. Travelex has offered the following response:
"Thank you for taking the time to post about your situation.
We understand the experience surrounding your situation did not meet your expectations. We do empathize with you and your family and understand that the coronavirus has caused a significant disruption on our society.
It is important to note that fear of travel, travel advisories, and destination being inaccessible due to the Covid-19 are not covered risks under the Travelex Insurance policy that you purchased. In order to cancel or interrupt a trip due to quarantine, the traveler or a traveling companion would need to be physically quarantined themselves.
Travelex Insurance Services Inc. does not make claim determinations. Thus, for claim questions or to submit a claim, please contact the Claim Administrator, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company, at 1-855-205-6054 or by email at [email protected], Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm CST.
We also recommend talking to your Traveler Suppliers about transferring any monies paid to a new trip. Additionally, to be of service we would like to offer you an extended date transfer, to reuse your policy towards a future trip. Alternatively, we can consider a premium refund in the event you cancelled your trip with no penalties, and you received a full refund from your travel supplier(s).
Please contact Travelex Insurance Services Inc. at [email protected] if you would like more information about either of these options.
We appreciate your patience and regret that we were unable to provide a more favorable outcome."
