Well, we actually used a travel policy for the first time ever for an actual claim. Had to go by ambulance to an ER in Leipzig, Germany. All we had to do was hand over the insurance papers and we received great care, no muss, no fuss.

Unfortunately, this policy cannot be extended during travel. Fortunately, the plan offers decent medical coverage for those without primary insurance in the United States who travel out of the country.

This plan covered all of the items I felt were important, at a level of coverage I was comfortable with, and at a reasonable cost. The purchase process was not complicated. We had all of the contact information we needed in hand had we needed to use the insurance.

The plan paid as promised for ambulance and hospital expenses in Frankfurt, Germany, and well within 30 days of the submission of claims. My only complaint is that the website really doesn't show claims in process as it purports to do. As a result, I made a phone call and was told that it often takes a week or more for an online claims status. In our case, the medical bills were paid before that happened. All in all, we were very well satisfied.

Because my Schengen visa application required a very specific letter, and it was easier to get it from here than to fight with my regular insurance company for a "special request", and the price is fair.
