Finding a good and reasonable trip insurance company (and policies) might be a challenge. Well, it was for me. Although these insurances are designed for travellers, amazingly insurance companies limit pretty much your coverage profile. For instance: I'm currently living in Mexico, bought a trip insurance for my (77 years old) Japanese mother living in Brazil. It was kind of difficult to fill up the forms and find a fit for all the required information (addresses, nationalities, citenzships...). But in the end everything went smooth and I did not need to file a claim with the insurance company.

Yes, it narrows down as it progresses. But as a proof of concept: I insured my mother (Kazuko) and used my email address. Your system records my mother name and addresses me (Paulo) with her name. There is no distinction between people buying insurance for themselves and third-parties insuring someone else. But that doesn't matter, anyway. It just proves what I stated on my review. I purchased a week long policy, contract only showed coverage for 1 day. Called to extend and was advised it was updated. Checked the website - still coverage for just 1 day. Called back to extend AGAIN and was told it was extended, but guess what - it wasn't. Demanded a refund then told there was an issue with my credit card. (there was not) Called back to advise and was then told I had to submit my request to cancel in writing. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! Still no credit or extension.

Cost and easiness of purchasing online are great. Coverage seems to be adequate to our needs.

The plan was fine and e everything was seamless. The only issue was, Frederic suffered an accident during the trip--a dislocated shoulder--and required emergency-room care. What he learned was, medical care in Mexico is incredibly inexpensive. The entire event--with anesthesia, x-rays and a team of care--cost less than the GeoBlue deductible (I believe the deductible was $250 and the hospital bill was under $200). So, he was not sure if he should have even reported it to GeoBlue or not. Insurance in Mexico is probably more important for extreme catastrophic events. It may make a difference when making future insurance purchases--understanding what is really needed. And maybe this policy is the best option, but with this new-found first-hand knowledge, it might inform future choices.

This plan is easy to purchase at a very reasonable price and covers med. We have bought the plan to cover us on several cruises when we are outside of the United States where our normal insurance will not cover. Thankfully we have never had to make a claim so I can't review the claims process and whether or not there would be any issues with coverage and payment. But, I would like to think that if needed this plan would cover any medical and emergency evacuation needs that should arise outside of the country just like our regular insurance covers us when we are at home.
