The policy seems to provide good gap coverage. But since there was no claim, I could not determine if any resolution would essentially be painless.

When traveling abroad, it is essential to have insurance for medical expenses or medical evacuation, which are not covered by Medicare and most health insurance. On a trip to Turkey, a woman in our group had appendicitis. She did not have travel insurance. She had only Medicare and a secondary health insurance plan, neither of which covered any expenses outside the U.S. She could not afford to pay for an air ambulance to have surgery back in the U.S. So she had surgery in Istanbul. Her adult daughter stayed with her, and paid out of pocket hotel room and restaurant meals while her mother was in the hospital. They had to pay up front for her medical care and hospitalization. Presumably they had to pay a high airfare home when she was well enough to travel. I always buy travel insurance. My credit card (co-branded with an airline's frequent flyer program) covers trip cancellation and interruption when I charge flights, hotels, cruises, etc. to that card (even if it's a different airline). However, that credit card does not cover medical treatments, hospitalization, or evacuation to the U.S. in case of illness or accident. This AIG Travel Guard MedEvac Plan is very reasonably priced and covers that gap including expenses for a traveling companion. Thankfully my companion and I have not needed medical treatment while traveling, but having this coverage gives us peace of mind.

Did not need to use the plan, which was only for Medical, so I can’t say how good the plan when filing a claim. However I thought the price was very reasonable and the coverage it provided was good.

As most other purchasers stated: " I thankfully Did Not have to use the service". Tho at times & places along my trip had joking thoughts in my mind that "here is where it might come into play" ; )
Not sure how well it would have worked if I had to use it but Relative to the cost of everything else..It seems a very fair price to pay for some peace of mind.
If purchasing again I would be sure to verify a contact phone # for AIG that is "easily" called with the users language; from a foreign phone. All in all as a new traveler I have found phone calls very hard to make.
