The Travel Guard MedEvac Plan from AIG Travel covers single trips up to 365 days in length and offers coverage such as Emergency Medical Evacuation, Medical, Security Evacuation, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment. This plan offers optional coverage upgrades for baggage and certain activities such as mountaineering, aviation, hang gliding, skydiving, parachuting and bungee jumping.

Right before my trip, I found out that my health insurance had no coverage for out of network care because it was based a deal negotiated with a local hospital system. I checked my insurer's website for the area I would be traveling to for covered providers and found none. To cover this lapse since I would be doing some risky activities like hiking the Grand Canyon, I bought this policy as a "just in case/what if?"

For the cost of the plan it did provide the coverage that we wanted. We did not need to use the plan while on the trip so I cannot comment on it.

We didn't need to use the insurance, so no issues. I primarily had it for the evacuation protection, again which we didn't need to use. For the cost, this plan provides a good back stop; realizing that while traveling, you're on your own and all eventualities will come directly "out of pocket". When you are safely home and have filed claims with any other insurance coverage you may have, this plan will activate to backstop any uncovered expenses, to the limits of the policy you select. How well it would work I can't say, since I couldn't find anyone who actually filed a claim, but it was a cost effective back up, offered by a well rated company. Cheers
