The AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold plan offers mid-level coverage and more options than Travel Guard Basic and Travel Guard Silver, allowing you to customize the plan to best fit your needs. In addition to Trip Cancellation, this plan offers Cancel for Any Reason coverage and a Pre-Existing Conditions Waiver. Children age 17 and under are free when there is at least one covered adult on the plan.

Unfortunately as is with most insurance plans, you don't know how good the plan is until you have a claim. I did not have a claim, and as such, I could only give a neutral rating on satisfaction and level of coverage and important items.

Interestingly, my mother (age 86) passed away on Tuesday, May 29th while we were cruising Glacier Bay. We checked into the cost of returning to Juneau to catch a flight back to Wichita to attend the funeral Mass on Saturday, June 2nd but found the airfare would have cost us more than the cost of the cruise. So we decided to complete the cruise and miss the Mass as that is what Mom would have wanted us to do.

I like using Insure My Trip because it's easy to use and the experience is always improving. It's easy to compare policies. While on my cruise, I had to visit the ship's doctor so I made sure I got the paperwork and completed the AIG form. After completing the claim form online and submitting the paperwork, I received a courtesy from my claims person. I did not hear anything after 30 days, so I sent an email to the claims person. It was never answered. However after calling, I got another claims person who checked their records and saw that it was a straight forward claim and processed it. He was in contact with me via email regarding the status of the claim, and I received a check shortly thereafter. I have no idea what happened to the first claim person or why or if she dropped the ball. I'm just glad that someone stepped up to the plate and took over.
