I would not recommend Allianz or use them unless they can convince me they have corrected problems I noticed with their online systems and would provide better specific details from their phone representatives and reviewers when there are questions or problems about submissions. My solidly valid claim purchased 8 months before my trip over death of a traveler's parent with no pre-existing condition(included in the policy coverage), with obvious death spiral and hospice care about the time our trip was to begin, took many hours of time detailing and submitting online, phone calls to Allianz, a letter to their Chief Operating Officer(still outstanding), and finally an InsureMyTrip advocate involved to help me finish my Allianz claim. It was almost 7 weeks to get resolved and paid. I did not know InsureMyTrip had advocates but relieved when I was assigned one and very happy that with the advocate's help I finally got the claim resolved within 3 days. I do highly recommend InsureMyTrip but for now would use a different traveler insurer - not Allianz.

I expect a lot of this is despite being a travel insurer, Allianz systems, processes and personnel do not handle complicated claims very well – multiple traveler suppliers, multiple payments made on a trip, and no way to describe or comment on the many details they are requiring you submit – online they just ask for the documents and do not ask for, or provide a description or comments. So if you have much more than a simple one time payment to one supplier for a trip it might get ugly, like my claim did. Also save every email, receipt and invoice – you’re going to need more proofs than you ever expected of every detail.

I am satisfied that their policy coverage was what I expected and the final result – full payment, but I would never want to go through what I just did to get my claim resolved, especially after losing a parent and a once in a lifetime trip. I would have to be convinced Allianz has improved their processes so I would not have to go through something like this again.

If you feel you are in a similar situation with a complicated claim and want to submit online, I encourage you at the start of claims submission to make your own document of all your submissions and any clarifying comments on each submission and submit your detailed explanations under Other documents on their online submission page, so they know what you feel is being submitted and why. They do not ask for or allow any comments or descriptions on their submissions page – give it to them anyway. That was one of my last resort techniques trying to explain a rejected portion of my claims details, but it turned out even that was not read or it was misunderstood by their reviewers.

I wanted an affordable policy to refund the cost of my daughter's school trip in case of cancellation or in case my daughter got sick prior to the trip and could not go. Additionally, our health care provider suggested that we get the policy to cover anything that our insurance would not cover since this was an international trip. Luckily, we did not need to use this policy, but it sure provided us with peace of mind.

Allianz Global Assistance Classic Trip Plus
I was really happy going away with peace of mind that I was insured. The good thing about this plan was that it covered our Destination Wedding Expenses. We didn't have to make any claims - which I was worried about has I've not had a good experience with Allianz before. In this case we didn't need to.

Ultimately, we got a reasonable payout from the insurance company for a trip that was interrupted by a mandatory Hurricane evacuation. My only complaint was how many times we had to follow up and clarify and send in more documentation. We had to fight for our claim! But it worked out in the end.

We were very happy with this coverage. We fortunately did not need it and did not make any claims. But, we read the plan documents carefully and felt like this plan provided very good coverage for everything we might need. It was good peace of mind to have for our honeymoon.
