I had just check into our Beijing hotel room when I had to go to the ER. Exhausted after a 20 hour journey, I called the insurance co. The medical dept. helped me located an ER with English speaking staff. I was particularly nervous because I was traveling alone with my 13 yr old daughter. I was reassured that, should I need surgery, they would fly my husband over to care for our daughter. Luckily, it was not that serious. I paid for the all the testing up front, snapped a photo of the bill, and emailed it to my husband who submitted it. A check arrived shortly after I returned home. I am very satisfied with the customer service and the coverage.

Allianz Global Assistance Basic
The definition of trip interruption differs at Allianz than ANYBODY else- I specifically wanted to defend a prepaid hotel room against delay and interruption- when my first flight was delayed 3 hours so international connection impossible, I was rerouted 24 hours later and lost 1 night prepaid room. Every other insurance company defines this as trip interruption AND delay-but not Allianz which only covers $150/night for delay. I called at purchase, called at delay/interruption AND WAS TOLD BY AL THIS POLICY WOULD COVER MY CONCERN. It did not. Bait and switch.

    In response to your review, we have followed up with the Allianz Claims department to check on the details of your claim. According to them, the claim was finalized and paid up to the maximum limits the policy provided. Attached is a copy of the Allianz response to our request.

    You are correct when stating that Allianz usually covers the loss of the prepaid hotel expense under Trip Delay instead of Trip Interruption. In order for the prepaid hotel to be reimbursed under Trip Interruption, the common carrier would have had to cease operations for at least 24 consecutive hours but even then only for inclement weather, mechanical breakdown or strike. More and more plans in addition to Allianz, especially those in the lower premium range, are now covering the lost prepaid expense under Trip Delay. Nevertheless there are still a few plans available that would have offered broader coverage which may have reimbursed you for the hotel under Trip Interruption but only for a higher premium.

    In the future, you may wish to call us when quoting a policy to review the policy terms and conditions prior to purchase.

There's not much I can say, since I didn't need to use it. It felt reassuring, though, to have it, since I was out of the country for 3 months, and in my 70's. This is the first time I've bought travel insurance.

I have never needed to collect on trip insurance, but I am more comfortable knowing that I am covered. Especially regarding an illness or injury that occurs while I'm away.

The web site was easy to navigate and answered all my questions and the price was as good or better than anyone else.

Allianz saved us from a disastrous Florida vacation trip interrupted by Mother's illness. I was contacted by a senior claims agent four days after filing our claim and received a check for our trip interruption claim amounts within 12 days of filing the claim. We were notified by e-mail even earlier as to the amount we would receive on the claim. We found their customer service reps to be helpful and claims personnel outstanding. Fortunately we also had them for coverage for a United Airlines flight during the same trip and they worked the polices seamlessly. Great Travel Insurance Company, efficient and user friendly; the best we've ever used!

Allianz Global Assistance Classic
For the first time ever, I actually had a good experience with an insurance company! The Allianz website was easy to navigate when searching for the right coverage and help line staff responsive when needed. More than half way through our trip, my traveling companion suffered a serious injury that required medical care, hospitalization, and early return home for us both. We each filed a claim for Trip Interruption and Medical coverage; the claim process was clear and easy to follow, and again phone support staff very helpful. Best of all, once our claim was submitted, Allianz responded quickly, and within the published timeframe, to our satisfaction. I'm impressed with the service, and will definitely use them again.
