travel insurance is like 4 wheel drive...when you need it it's there to get you out of a jam...in my case, I didn't need to use it...my trip went well w/out difficulty or problems...thank you, look forward to my next trip and your insurance safety net....

Was in Nepal preparing to return when the Qatar situation developed. Contacted April customer care and they were very responsive and followed up. Fortunately no issues and no claim necessary and glad customer care followed up.

Refund Policy is not clear...April insurance does not clarify that only a partial premium refund is available after a certain time frame. Customer service made a false comment regarding that there is no lookover period in NY. It is usually between 10-15 days after doing my own research.

Thank you for your feedback. Pro-rated refunds are provided for policies in which the "Cancellation by the Insured" language is included in the terms and conditions of the policy.
Per our records, the pro-rated refund amount was confirmed as a reply to your cancellation request email, on 5/2/17 at 5:03pm EST. The pro-rated refund was the difference from the paid vs earned premium of the policy used from 2/6/17 (Effective Date of Policy) to 4/30/17 (Cancellation Request). We used this policy to reimburse us for my husband's visit to the cruise ship's doctor. While we were still on the ship, I used the email address specifically provided to us by April Travel Protection to communicate with them while at sea. Basically I just wanted to find out what we needed to provide in order to file a claim so that I made sure we got all of the documents before leaving the ship. However, I received no response back from April, so I needed to call them from the ship. When I spoke to a rep I told her I had emailed the address provided and got no response back, she kept repeating that they respond to emails within a certain time (it was way past the time frame she said). Not a great start in terms of customer service.
However, she did email me a claim form with instructions and when we got back home I followed the claim instructions carefully and had no problems getting reimbursed for the full amount of the ship's medical center charges. (Although on their summary of benefits that came along with the check they got the patient name wrong and listed me as the patient instead of my husband -- it didn't affect the payment but I noticed they got that wrong.)
So, I would probably use April again as they processed the claim quickly and completely and had good coverage, but I do wish they were better about responding to their email and paying attention to who the patient was.

My wife purchased this plan when arranging for our trip to New Zealand. On the trip, the unthinkable happened: she became ill and died of pneumonia despite prompt, aggressive, excellent medical care. Procedures included air transfers by helicopter and airplane, and brief stays in 2 ICUs. April didn't always answer their phone promptly, and weren't much help while I was in New Zealand, but none was needed as we were well taken care of by the medical system and by Overseas Adventure Tours. On return, I initially thought they would pay the bills as they came in, but the policy clearly states that they reimburse for what I pay. After we straightened that out, I paid the bills, with a couple calls to NZ needed to prod the billing offices, and I submitted the receipts and credit card statements as requested. Review took longer than I thought it should, and communications from them were sometimes delayed and cryptic. But what counts is that in the end, they paid every penny of every bill without a hassle beyond getting the paperwork done. I give them full credit for being careful, thorough, and doing what they said they would do.

The refund policy is located in your certificate and reads as follows:
'Cancellation by the Insured:
You have the right to cancel the Policy at any time by giving advance notice to Our Administrator or Us (stating when thereafter the
cancellation shall be effective). We will refund any unearned premium to You within 10 days of cancellation.'
