As far as I know, the travel insurance actually covers what it says it covers. We did not need to file any claims so I can't comment on how difficult (or easy) that aspect might be.
My only complaint would be that our team consisted of people from four states, and we had to buy travel insurance separately for each state. That is rather awkward, and I was astonished at how different the costs were for the same coverage in each state.

We purchased the insurance to be sure we were covered for health concerns since our personal health coverage no longer covered overseas travel. The fortunate part about our plan was it covered our unexpected trip interruption and reimbursed us promptly for the non-refundable hotel costs we had paid for at our final destination.

I took my family to Costa Rica on an adventure to the Caribbean side and services aren't quite what we are accustomed to in the US. It was a great deal of comfort to know that I had purchased a backup plan.
