The Global Alert Preferred plan offers comprehensive Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due an unforeseen covered event.
We did not need to use our insurance however a woman in our our group had a stroke while in Portugal and had to be hospitalized, etc. I do not know who her insurer was but feel that if this had happened to me or my wife we would have been well taken care of by our Global Alert insurance plan.

The claim took two months to reach a settlement. I had to call Trip Mate several times in order to get a status of the claim. The online claim status function did not provide any pertinent information. Trip Mate did not do anything with the claim for the first 30 days. The claim should have been resolved in a couple of weeks or less since I had submitted 15 documents supporting my claim. The claim was finally resolved and I did receive full payment but it took too long too finalize and was very stressful for me.

On behalf of Global Alert, we apologize for any stress that you may have felt due to the lengthy claims process. Generally Trip Mate, who handled your claim on behalf of Global Alert, does usually have a 30 day turnaround time. Unfortunately Trip Mate experienced a much higher volume of claims than anticipated after the damage inflicted by Hurricanes Irma, Jose and Maria which significantly slowed down the processing time.

I find it very hard to judge a plan until something happens-then you find out really how good/bad the plan and the company behind it is. I chose the plan but gratefully did not have to use it.

Since I am an older traveler I am most concerned with medical options while on international trips. Trip delay and things like that are not as important to me so I make sure to get a good policy with as much medical coverage as possible. There is always a good plan that covers my needs for where I'm going.

Staff at Insuremytrip acted as a middleman, contacting the insurance company to facilitate some response. Insuremytrip staff were responsive and they report global alert says it should have been here last week. Mind you, it is only for a hundred odd dollars and the claim was filed months ago. The form is cumbersome and repetitive and laborious to complete, both the computerized form you have to fill out to ask to enter a claim as well as the claim itself.

We did not need to file a claim, but it gave us peace of mind knowing that we did have coverage if needed. The representative that we talked with before going was very friendly and helpful to us. My son-in-law who purchased from another insurance company said he wished he had known about Global Alert before buying his policy. He paid more and not as good of coverage.
