The Silver plan is the mid-level policy offered by John Hancock and may be ideal for families traveling with children, as kids 17 and under are free as long as one parent is covered under the plan. Coverage is offered if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip for a typical covered reason which can range from an unforeseen illness, injury or death to your destination being made uninhabitable by a natural disaster. The Silver plan does offer higher limits of coverage than the Bronze plan for Baggage, Travel Delay, Medical and Emergency Medical Evacuation.

Guess I missed something. Our return flight was on a delay, and I was curious if there was any benefit to help extend rental car coverage. I tried to call, but the contact information said the offices were only open Monday through Friday...

    Unfortunately, the rental car collision damage waiver was not included the policy when it was purchased and was not added on prior to the departure date. Comprehensive plans such as the John Hancock Insurance Agency plan cannot be extended or modified on or after the departure date. However, it possible that the policy benefits that were offered/selected would have automatically been extended:

    "EXTENDED COVERAGE:
    All coverage under the Policy will be extended, if:
    (a) Your entire Covered Trip is covered by the Policy; and
    (b) Your return is delayed by covered reasons specified under Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption or Trip Delay.

    If coverage is extended for the above reasons, coverage will end on the earlier of: (a) the date You reach Your return destination; or (b) 7 days after the date the Covered Trip was scheduled to be completed."

It was a bit pricey for the coverage amount, BUT I am grateful for the adventure sports/activity coverage, which is what I absolutely needed. I did not file a claim so I cannot speak to that process but it was extremely great knowing I was covered and I felt like I had more freedom on my trip.

I was hoping that this trip insurance would just be for peace of mind, but unfortunately I did have to use my trip insurance! This was my first international trip, and while I was in Japan, an earthquake shook Kumamoto and cut all rail transportation in that island. Thankfully my husband and I were very far away from there at the time, but we needed to travel south of Kyushu and were planning to use the rail, which was broken by the quake. John Hancock really pulled through for us as they were able cover a plane flight to our next destination so we didn't have to skip part of our trip. They 24/7 team were very responsive to us and answered all of our questions. After our trip, we submitted the claim and they cut us a check with our transportation costs. I'm definitely both a believer in trip insurance and a believer in John Hancock / Seven Corners.
