I was looking for a plan that would cover medical costs in the case of a terrorist incident, and after speaking with a representative, realized that this plan would not do that. That is really the only reason I needed travel insurance, as my current medical insurance would cover most other situations.

Travel agent offered our group a "one-size fits all" plan. Group tours are almost never cancelled and lost baggage is also not as much of a problem (especially for large groups on simple itineraries) as it once was so we focused on the issues that could really change our lives. We are retired and both 70 so we purchased a really good medical policy. It costs about $50k if you need an air ambulance evacuation from Europe to the US. This plan covered it and more for a lot less $ than the once-size fits all. Compared to the cost of the trip, this insurance was almost trivial. As it turned out, one of our elderly tour-mates fell and may need medivac from Europe to the US. Hope not but if this is needed, it will be a back breaker for them.

According to the description of coverage, the MEDEX TravMed Abroad plan excludes coverage related to war or any act of war, whether declared or not, civil disturbance or insurrection.
