My dad was in the process of dying and I didn't know if I would be able to go or not. I called four days before I was to leave with questions about coverage. I was happy to be told I would be covered up until the day of travel (I knew that from the policy but was happy to HEAR it). They gave me a number to call and a claim number if I needed it. Very kind. Don't know when my future travel plans will materialize but Nationwide will be my choice for insurance.
And, I have referred Nationwide for future travel to friends.

Like any insurance you never know if it was enough or to much. I am still not sure if what I bought was the correct policy with the correct coverage. Having said this I believe in travel insurance, what we did purchase was the best bang for the buck. Next time how can I consult with an agent to make sure I'm buying the right policy?

Our 4-night cruise to Bahamas was plagued by bad weather and rough seas. We were not able to stop at the island nor able to get off the ship during the entire cruise due to torrential rains and winds. Trip interruption / itinerary-change coverage did not cover this because we never left the ship. In order for this coverage to apply, we would have had to leave the ship and not get to have the ship services (ie meals, rooms). Otherwise, it was a comfort to think that we would be protected from major problems, but the details of coverage should be checked out for these types of exceptions/qualifications. For example, if the ship was disabled out at sea for days, no reimbursement would be given.

    "In the event a cruise/Travel Supplier makes a change in Your Covered Trip itinerary that prevents You from participating in an event/activity pre-paid prior to departure and scheduled on the Your Covered Trip itinerary, nonrefundable pre-paid event/activity expenses will be payable up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Coverage.

    Benefits will not be paid if the event/activity is rescheduled during the course of the Covered Trip.

    Verification by the Cruise/Travel Supplier of the change in the scheduled Trip Itinerary will be necessary for claim
    payment."

My wife and I never ever buy trip insurance and vacation at least three times per year. Our dilemma with this trip is that we had to change plans three times to get to our final destination each way and the one airline had a poor track record with delays and lost luggage. Thank goodness everything worked out and we didn't need to use it.

We had to cancel due to a family emergency 3 weeks before our trip. We could not have been more satisfied with the help and response we received from Nationwide. Our claim was processed quickly and easily. I would recommend them and in fact, will use them again in the future for our travel plans.

In the future, if you experience an issue with a claim, please call InsureMyTrip at 800-487-4722 and request a Customer Advocate. In a situation where a claim is taking an usually long time to process, our Customer Advocates will contact the insurance company on the customers behalf in attempt to expedite the claim.
