I basically look for the cheapest coverage for what I need and includes pre-existing and medi-evacuation. I have collected several times with different policies and never had a problem with "cheap." In fact, one of them reminded me that they could not finish processing my claim until I submitted what Medicare was paying when it had been sitting on their desk gathering dust. I was aware that it was still pending but Medicare takes their good time processing their claims.. Anyway, impressed they didn't just "sit" on it and hope I would go away (lol).

Fortunately,I did not have to make a claim. I buy insurance on every cruise (14) and have never made a claim. Therefore, I do not know how good the insurance is unless I have to make a claim.

Now that my husband and I are in our 70s, we know we need travel insurance (luckily, we had bought some two years ago when my husband needed emergency surgery three days before a trip to China).
The Nationwide Universal Cruise plan we bought for our recent cruise is low cost and designed for our specific needs. While we didn't have to file a claim (thank goodness), the peace of mind we bought was well worth it.

My husband had serious injury 3 weeks before our trip. We submitted the required paperwork and a check for a full refund arrived 4 weeks later. The process was very smooth.

We did not have to file any claims but felt like we had the coverage we needed just in case it was needed. One of the people we ate dinner with each night on the cruise died of a heart attack while snorkeling in Cozumel so it really made us glad that we had travel insurance. Also very glad we did not have to use it.

A claim was filed on our behalf for a major medical reason involving our daughter. We were told it's not covered and to read the exclusions. It would appear that the exclusions have exclusions. Either way the insurance has no value and the company will find a way to issue a denial. For our money this was a waste .

When we received your comments on October 31st, we assigned your potential claim to an advocate. Based on the information that you provided, our advocate called the Nationwide claims department who confirmed your telephone conversation and pointed out the applicable exclusion in the policy, so no claim was actually filed.
Of course, it is never good news to hear that there is no coverage in your policy for a medical issue. If you would like to call Customer Care to discuss this further, we are available to call at (800) 487-4722 Mondays through Friday from 7:00 AM to midnight and weekends 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Although I did not need to file a claim (thankfully!) the peace of mind I had after purchasing this very reasonably priced policy was worth every penny. There have been so many stories in the news lately about cruise ship mishaps - and one of my biggest fears about this cruise was getting sick in Mexico. The policy covered all of that. For the money you're spending on a great vacation, it's such a small price to pay for that extra peace of mind.

Due to weather issues, we missed a flight and subsequently missed our cruise departure. We had to buy new airline tickets to a different destination in order to catch up with the cruise at the first port (which turned out to be the second port of call because the ship skipped the first port of call due to bad weather), stay overnight in a hotel and then use public transit to get to our destination. Upon our return home, we submitted a claim for all of the additional receipted travel expenses. Nationwide sent us a reimbursement, but not for the full amount. When I called to ask about the amount of reimbursement that we received, the agent agreed that we should have been reimbursed at a higher amount, authorized payment, and we received another check a week later. We were reimbursed for the full amount that we had receipts for. Because we were travelling internationally and had to spend a significant sum to reach our destination, we were very glad to have purchased insurance, and we would purchase it again for an international trip such as this.
