I always get travel insurance when we go on a cruise, but primarily for emergency evacuation reasons. In a dozen years, this is the first time I've had to file a claim. Thankfully, it was just for baggage delay since our luggage took over 24 hours to get to us. While on the trip, I called Seven Corners and was assured that my husband and I each had $400 to spend on items that we needed. Since we were on going on a two week cruise, and didn't know if our luggage would make it to us in time, we needed a lot! When I got home, I called Seven Corners and had the very polite service agent walk me through exactly what I needed to fill out on their claim form. The claim form was far from straight forward for someone who was filing for a delay. A couple of weeks later, I received a letter in the mail saying that I didn't complete everything that I needed to fill in on the form. I phoned them to find out exactly what they were looking for since I followed the first agent's instructions to the letter. The not-so polite second agent told me that I needed to list each item with a description (53 items). I wish the agent I initially spoke to had told me that to avoid an over two month time period before getting reimbursed. I'm pleased that I finally got a check, but think the company really needs to change their claim forms to make it clear from the beginning what information they need. Their own representatives weren't even clear on what needed to be submitted.

Was very happy with the coverage! Unfortunately, I had a hiking mishap in South America and had to use my policy. At the time, they got me on a first class flight home after breaking my ankle. All I had was a note from the Argentine hospital, but we took a picture of the note and my leg in the splint and emailed it. Once received, they arranged and paid for transportation to the airport and the flight to get home for surgery. I did not file a claim for the ER in Argentina or expenses for missed parts of the trip. I received a check for everything I claimed for within a couple of weeks of faxing the claim. They said to submit an appeal for the $40 paid for crutches but I never did.

I encourage every traveler to purchase travel insurance. My favorite company to recommend is InsureMyTrip. You never know when you might have an insurance need. Most travelers do not realize what the cost is for emergency medical care. For a few dollars, travel insurance eliminates a lot of headaches. In 2014, we had to cancel our trip due to an emergency surgery. The insurance provider recommended by InsureMyTrip reimbursed our full travel investment.

Who knows how the protection element would have worked if an emergency occurred. In the past I did have small claim (trip delay) and it was handled well.

I paid over $900 for the plan. I filed a claim for one night of a pre-paid hotel that I was unable to use due to a delay. It took four months to get the claim resolved. They stated that I had not submitted all necessary information, but never contacted me about what I supposedly had not submitted. After three months, I contacted them and was told that I had not responded to their request for additional information. I responded by forwarding them the last email I had received from them that acknowledged they had received my paperwork. I hate to think how they would have handled a claim if I'd been trying to be reimbursed for an amount greater than the premium paid.

I did a lot of research on plans and this one seemed to have the best features that we cared about. For a reasonable premium, we liked the per item limit for lost luggage, the combined maximum limit for jewelry and electronics, high medical limits, and no exclusions on hiking, backpacking, horseback riding or basic ocean activities.

We always insure our trips through InsureMyTrip. This time was a little different because there was an ongoing medical condition meaning we needed to get a policy with "Cancel for any Reason" coverage. It was of course more costly than if we did not need that benefit, but we felt better having the policy. The best part was that we were able to take the trip and had no problems!
