Why buy trip insurance when you are not going out of the US? Seemed like a fair question to me, but due to the possibility of my work needing me to stay at the last second, I went ahead and got it for a trip to Alaska. Little did I know that a medical event would occur on day two that required multiple ER visits and the need to miss expensive boat excursions.
The whole thing maxed out the deductible on my high-deductible health care plan incurring thousands of dollars of losses not covered by my regular insurance.
This policy covered all my major out of pocket losses and while the trip itself was a loss, we were saved from paying double the cost in unexpected medical losses, too.
They took a few weeks longer than expected to process the claim, but they got it in the end and that is what counts.

Took the advice of Clark Howard and found Travelex through his website, and so relieved I did. We had a significant medical claim and sent our paperwork in upon our trip return. I immediately received confirmation and within two weeks received a follow-up email confirming that our claim had been approved. Less than one week later, our check was received in the mail as we had requested. Well worth the investment, peace of mind and completely satisfied!!! *****

The customer service with this company was excellent. I had a claim. They were courteous and very prompt with responses. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is that they do not consider airport parking a necessary expense when your travel is delayed. I disagree. If I have a vehicle parked at an airport while I am traveling, and can't get back to it at the planned time, in other words - delayed, then, it is an extra expense that I would not have incurred if I had arrived at the airport as planned. In my opinion, my one day of extra parking should have been covered in the delayed coverage.

The coverages are excellent. I've never had to file a claim in my multiple times purchasing travel insurance so I believe the coverage is expensive. On the other hand, the peace of mind compensates for that. I highly recommend the insurance, you never know what could/might happen.

Thakfully, we did not need to use the Travelex Insurance we purchased but it was re-assuring that we had the coverage had we needed it. If I were to travel in the future and especially plan another family trip, I would definitley purchase travel insurance from Travelex. The peace of mind was worth the expense.

Nobody wants to have to file a claim. This was a trip to Alaska and a long way from home. Four long flights. Anything could happen. And what if something happened in interior Alaska or on the cruise. It was great piece of mind. Absolutely no regrets!

Since I didn't file a claim, my rating isn't really informed. One thing I didn't like was that when we changed the date of the trip about a month after booking, we were reluctantly allowed to move our coverage to the new date, but were warned that this was a one time only change. Other insurance companies used in the past allowed date changes without a murmur.
