I had to claim a doctor visit and medicines. the process took a couple of months, but I was reimbursed for all of my expenses. It was no harder or longer than any insurance claim. I will use them again soon.

We just returned from a relatively long trip to Europe, and as always when we travel, we are concerned with a health crisis or injury while overseas. Medicare (and most likely other health insurers) offer NO coverage while out of the country, and we have friends who experienced a massive heart attack while on a cruise, and through them we learned that evacuation and emergency treatment are massively expensive, and without insurance coverage they would have been really in trouble. We are not so concerned with the cost of baggage or clothing, nor even of the loss of advance payments, that's relatively minor in scope. It's the medical treatment, and evacuation, that's the big ticket stuff that will kill you financially. Also, since my wife has a number of physical conditions ongoing, we are concerned with the "preexisting conditions" coverage, so we pay careful attention to that, since the insurance co. will waive defenses against preexisting conditions provided the insurance is purchased within a specific (and short) time period from either the first or last payment made on the trip, depending. So for example, if our friend with the heart attack had had a preexisting heart condition, they might have found themselves with denial of coverage of a preexisting condition, had they not purchased the insurance within the allowable time frame - so a note of caution to those who want medical and evacuation coverage, who have preexisting conditions, to pay attention to that "little" detail. The coverage provided is a very good value for the money you pay for that coverage. Fortunately we've never had to file a claim, but when/if that time comes, people should be aware of this policy condition. Yes, I am a lawyer.

I have an MBA and a lot of contract law experience. I can only speak to one area of the policies major flaw. Coverage for baggage loss or theft internationally. The policy requires a "written report" of the loss of your baggage. Sounds easy? It isn't, especially, when A) you do not have a clear definition of what the report needs to contain and B) they expect it to almost come to you as if you were in America. Imagine being in ANY foreign country, China, Iran, Jamaica, South America and your items are stolen. You need a police report. Can you file it while your there? Was there a riot? trouble? When you get home can you figure out how to file the report? Including the language barriers, time differences, the international calls and the insane amount of time you spend doing this. Foreign Countries aren't jumping up and down to spend money to help you get a report for an insurance company. At no time have I received a definition of what a "written report" exactly is and that is applicable fairly and equally across all foreign destinations. So buyer beware. If you've been denied, seek counsel.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. Your review is very informative, and we hope fellow customers will consider the information in their search for travel insurance.

To have a payable Baggage and Personal Effects claim on a Comprehensive travel insurance policy, the insured person must notify, the police, hotel, Common Carrier or bailee who has custody of your property at the time of loss, and obtain a copy of the reported loss from the company. The wording of this requirement will vary slightly from policy certificate to policy certificate, but the basic premise is the same, the insured person bares the burden of providing the proof of loss in order to receive reimbursement for their loss. Notifying the appropriate authority and obtaining a written report for Baggage and Personal Effects claims is travel insurance industry standard for Comprehensive travel insurance policies.

Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions about this requirement, or want details on the additional requirements for Baggage and Personal Effects coverage.

Germany doesn't provide written reports within 48 hours, they provide them after the investigation is over. So the insurance plans ask for what is not reasonable or obtainable. You cannot know the laws of each foreign country you are visiting before you travel.

Interesting how most of the reviews (95%) are just reflections of how easy it was to buy this plan or any plan actually - USELESS. I do appreciate that Deirdre review or was it an opinion? gives some food for thought.

    Thanks!

While it is true that a high number of reviews are not based on a filed claim, we do provide a filter option at the top of the review page to only show reviews based on a filed claim.

Thankfully we did not have to use it for any claims but it was wonderful knowing it was in place should we have to. My only concern is the price of the policy which is how it is with any insurance plan. The price seemed high, $700 for a $5400 trip. But for the coverage, if we had needed it, it was a relief knowing it was there. I will always use InsureMyTrip for trip insurance rather than what the cruise or airline companies offer. I love the choice of selecting the product.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. In selecting this policy, you purchased M.H. Ross's highest level of coverage; Cancel For Any Reason and elevated limits for baggage and medical reimbursement. In the future, please consider calling for a quote. We may be able to secure a similar policy at a lower rate. Our representatives are available 7 days a week at 800-487-4722.

I feel as though only the people who have a claim should fill out this survey because the handling of the claim is the real determinate of how effective, fair and hassle free the company really is
