I have a question about this subject!

Question:

I am traveling to the UK in November. I will have finished working my current job and will not have US health insurance while I am in the UK. Can I get comprehensive travel insurance and use that as my primary health insurance during the trip? In other words do the policies require that I have my own health insurance as well as the back up of travel health insurance?
- Nick,
10/13/2021

Answer:

You are not required to have primary health insurance to qualify for a comprehensive policy. Most of the comprehensive policies offer secondary medical coverage, however this would essentially act as primary if you have no other primary coverage when traveling.

With travel medical insurance, you can visit any certified hospital or doctor when traveling. Any expenses incurred are to be paid out of pocket at the time off the loss, and once you return home from your trip you would submit a claim to get reimbursed.

Question:

Do the travel medical insurances supply CASH to pay medical bills (hospital, clinic) when you are in say.. Mexico... From what I understand most hospitals and clinics demand you pay the bill in full before you leave and don't take credit cards or checks? OR do all insurances require you to send a receipt for reimbursement?
- Mary,
10/18/2017

Answer:

Typically, all claims are handled on a reimbursement basis. Any expenses incurred when traveling would have to be paid at the time of the loss and you would file for reimbursement once you return home by submitting a claim with the insurance company.

Question:

I have had two DVTs (blod clots) 2011 and 2013. 2 pulmonary embolisms in 2011. I am being treated by a spealist and I am tested every 6 months. I am stable to travel, but We have already completely paid for our travel Air and Cruise. We don not travel until May 27. My question will I be covered medically and evacuation if I have another blood clot. Also can I get any coverage since I have already paid in full.

If the reason you are canceling, interrupting or seeking medical coverage is related to pre-existing conditions there will be no coverage, unfortunately. A Pre-Existing Condition is any treatment, diagnostic tests or exams, any recommendations for diagnostic test or exams, or any adjustments in medication up or down within the pre-existing condition period stated (depending on the company, 60 – 180 days prior to the effective date). You can purchase most policies up until the day before departure, however; you may not be eligible for some time sensitive benefits if you do not purchase within 10-30 days of the initial trip deposit/payment. Some time sensitive benefits are, but not limited to: Pre-Existing Condition Waiver, Financial Default, Terrorism, Cancel For Any Reason and Cancel For Work Reasons.
