I have a question about this subject!

Question:

We are planning to take a B2B cruise for 30 consecutive days, the first Caribbean leg is 16 days and the next 14 days are an Alaskan cruise, on the same ship. Will we need 2 policies or do we just list day we leave our home as day 1 and day we return home included in our travel?
- Angie,
02/22/2024

Answer:

You will only need one policy to cover both cruises. Please make sure the travel dates reflect the date you leave and return home for the trip, and the trip cost can include all prepaid non-refundable travel arrangements paid for prior to departure from home.

Question:

I’d like to purchase an annual plan for my husband and myself. We have quite a bit of travel planned the next two years, mostly cruising.
- PamelaD,
06/27/2023

Answer:

We do provide annual medical policies for trips that take place outside of your home country. Typically, the trips cannot be longer than 70 days per trip with most plans. To obtain a quote, please fill out the quote form with your very first trip's details and once you arrive on the results page, please click on the “International Medical” filter on the left side of the page and look for the plans that are labeled “multi trip". Our multi-trip medical plans provide both medical and medical evacuation coverage. If you wanted trip cancellation and other travel protection benefits, that has to be purchased on a per trip basis.

We are taking our 75-year old parents on an 9-day trip to Kawa'i in May. What if one of them gets sick prior to the trip and cannot go...if we have a group of 8 policy, can we all cancel and get reimbursed?
- DaveJ,

Answer:

Yes. If one traveler has to cancel the trip for a covered reason such as an unforeseen illness of one the travelers, all other travelers who are insured are also covered to cancel as well. Trip Cancellation reimburses 100%. To see all of the covered reasons to cancel or interrupt your trip, please click on the dollar amount that appears under the words "Trip Cancellation" when viewing a quote.

Question:

My wife and I will be flying to India together this December, but returning separately a few weeks apart. Does travel insurance cover us both, or are the plans and costs separate ?
- PopatlalA,
10/24/2021

Answer:

If you do not depart and return on the same dates for the trip, you will need to obtain separate policies. You can only be listed on the same policy together if you live in the same state and travel on the same dates, please keep in mind.

Question:

Do I need insurance for an Alaskan Cruise if I would need medical care on the ship ? We live in Missouri .
- MarlaO,
03/07/2020

Answer:

If you have medical insurance that covers you in the United States you shouldn't need any travel medical insurance, but it is included with all comprehensive policies we offer. Comprehensive Plans are the most widely known form of coverage and are often called package plans. Typically, a Comprehensive Plan will offer a variety of benefits for travelers, covering a wide range of concerns. Most provide coverage for Trip Cancellation, Trip interruption, Baggage loss, Medical, Dental, Emergency Evacuation, 24 Hour Traveler Assistance, Baggage Delay, Travel Delay, and Accidental Death.

Question:

How do I estimate the cost for a trip? I know that I should include the air fare and tour cost. But what about any rental car cost, which I could cancel if the trip was cancelled in advance? Should I include that cost because it might relate to coverage?
- Jeff,
08/10/2019

Answer:

You can insure all prepaid non-refundable travel arrangements paid for prior to departure, including the cost of a prepaid non-refundable rental car. If the trip is cancelled for a covered reason listed in the policy certificate, you are reimbursed 100% of the trip cost insured.

Question:

Why does travel insurance vary from state to state? Is the place of origin the departure of the trip or place where you live .
- RobynS,
12/17/2017

Answer:

There are different insurance laws that are regulated by each state. Benefits and exclusions may vary depending on the state you live in. With the Comprehensive policies, the departure date is the date you leave your home and the return date is the date you return back to your home.

Question:

I just booked a trip to Hawaii and so far, have only needed to pay a $200 deposit for a condo which is refundable. But I need the Pre-existing condition waiver so need to book the insurance by Feb. 14. What do I insure NOW since there is nothing non-refundable ? We haven't booked airfare yet and final condo payment isn't due until July. Should I be estimating our airfare & car rental costs now and paying for the whole trip insurance now.? What happens if my estimates are too high....do you give a refund?
- Betsy,
02/09/2017

Answer:

Most Comprehensive Plans will offer a waiver of pre-existing conditions if you meet the following conditions: You purchase the policy within 10 to 21 days of making your first trip payment; insure ALL prepaid non-refundable expenses prior to your departure date; and be medically fit to travel the day you purchase the policy. You can insure the travel arrangements you have paid for to date, even if they are refundable at this point, and once you make subsequent payments towards the trip, you can contact us and update your existing policy accordingly. By doing this, you will keep your Trip Cost insured at 100%.

Question:

I am building my trip in pieces, so I don't yet know the total cost. Should I buy a policy now for costs to date and add the rest later, or wait until I have all the pieces reserved? How do I go about changing the cost of the trip after I've purchased the policy?
- JacquelineW,
12/10/2016

Answer:

You can insure any prepaid non-refundable travel arrangements you paid for at this time, and once you make subsequent payments towards the trip, you can call us or email us and we can update the existing policy accordingly. Please keep in mind, you can purchase most policies up until the day before departure, however; you may not be eligible for some time sensitive benefits if you do not purchase within 10-30 days of the initial trip deposit/payment. Some time sensitive benefits are, but not limited to: Pre-Existing Condition Waiver, Financial Default, Terrorism, Cancel For Any Reason and Cancel For Work Reasons.

I'm concerned about needing to return due to a family emergency. Is there coverage for that scenario?
- PeterF,

Question:

Hint: Provide details to help us answer as soon as possible. When I buy travel insurance, policies all seem to include coverage I don't need but have to pay for. Am retired so don't need coverage for cancellation due to having to work. When I buy airline ticket with my credit card, it covers baggage delay, accidental death. Homeowners insurance covers lost luggage. All I really want is trip cancellation/interruption and medical (if traveling abroad since Medicare doesn't cover). But trip insurance seems to be sold as a package.
- Nancy,
02/08/2014

Answer:

That is correct, they are sold as a package. I would recommend entering your quote details and obtaining a quote for one of the Comprehensive Package Plans. They premiums are determined by your trip cost, your length of travel and your ages. The premiums are pretty low until you enter a trip cost, so the other benefits are not very expensive.

Question:

We bought Celebrity's travel insurance and, after the Celebrity Millennium canceled our August 23, 2103 Alaska cruise because the ship had an engine failure, the travel insurance paid nothing. We had flown to Alaska and were waiting to board the ship when we were informed by text message that the cruise was canceled. The cruise line paid part of the costs we incurred to get home, but the insurance refused to pay the costs we incurred getting to the embarkation port. Our expenses going to the embarkation port were not reimbursed, and I submitted a claim under the trip delay insurance. Should they have paid?
- RobertH,
02/08/2014

Answer:

Unfortunately, we are unable to discuss any travel insurance policies that we do not offer, as we are not familiar with them and cannot provide accurate information. We can certainly discuss our policies and help find the best policy to cover your concerns on any future trips you have planned. I have heard that purchasing travel insurance through the cruise line is not always the best option since they are only insuring the cruise costs and not anything before or after.

Question:

As seniors, our dogs are like our children now. As they age, we worry about their health. Other than 'cancel for any reason', is there anyone who has an option to include pet health for a reason for cancelling a trip? If not, I think it would be a good bet for someone to do, as many people have pets.
- mikeP,
01/17/2014

Answer:

Unfortunately, there are currently no policies that will cover cancellation due to the health of a pet. In order for you to be able to cancel for this reason you would need to use a cancel for any reason policy for the time being.
