I have a question about this subject!

Question:

I currently don't have medical insurance. if I buy a travel insurance plan with secondary coverage, will they deny me since I don't have a primary coverage?

Answer:

If you have no primary health insurance, you would inform the insurance company of this at the time of the claim. The secondary coverage will essentially act as primary, it does not require you to have primary coverage unless it is mentioned on the quote or in the policy certificate.

Question:

I have a medicare supplement for only 60 days of my 90 day trip. Will this secondary insurance cover me during that final 30 days?

Answer:

The coverage will apply during the entire duration of the trip, not just the final 30 days, please keep in mind. Primary coverage will pay FIRST, before any other collectible insurance. Secondary coverage will pay you after any other Primary collectible insurance has paid the claim and the Primary policy's limits have been exhausted.

Question:

If you are on Medicare, how does insurance cover?

Answer:

An important fact to keep in mind is that Medicare is considered your Primary health insurance whether they cover you or not. Therefore, when considering a travel insurance policy, you will want to pay extra attention to the type of medical benefit it will provide. If you purchase a policy with Secondary medical coverage and need to file a claim, the travel insurance will still require you to file a claim through Medicare first. Since they will not cover, Medicare will provide a denial letter simply to show that they are not paying your medical claim. You would then be able to file through the travel insurance. With this in mind, it may be more convenient to consider a travel insurance policy with Primary medical coverage, which will save you the time and hassle of filing through Medicare first.
