I have a question about this subject!

Question:

I would like to know if the insurance covers the interruption of a trip and pays all spent and unused costs? Example Ski holiday trip where I got injured on the first day and was unable to ski. I had paid for hotel, ski classes and ski passes for a whole week and I lost all of them. Would this insurance cover these expenses?

Answer:

Trip Interruption reimburses the unused portion of the total trip cost that you missed out on, depending on when the trip is interrupted. In addition, most comprehensive policies will cover up to a specified amount listed on the quote for additional expenses incurred when returning home early for a covered reason. To see all of the covered reasons to cancel or interrupt your trip, please click on the dollar amount that appears under the words "Trip Cancellation" when viewing a quote.

Question:

For trip interruption or cancellation. How would you insure for airfare if you haven’t yet bought the tickets because u are still shopping? I notice policies want u to purchase within a week or two of purchasing trip and sometimes it’s hard to book transport that quickly
- Frances,

Answer:

You can purchase most policies up until the day before departure, however; you may not be eligible for some time sensitive benefits if you do not purchase within 10-21 days of the initial trip deposit/payment. Some time sensitive benefits are, but not limited to: Pre-Existing Condition Waiver, Financial Default, Terrorism, Cancel For Any Reason and Cancel For Work Reasons. You can insure what you have paid for to date and any known costs, and once you make subsequent payments towards the trip prior to departure, you can contact us and update your existing policy accordingly.

Question:

Is CFAR insurance available in Utah?
- Garry,
04/17/2020

Answer:

Cancel For Any Reason is typically available for residents of Utah and is usually an optional coverage available on some comprehensive plans. There are some eligibility requirements for this coverage, such as insuring 100% of pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs, purchasing your coverage within 10-21 days of your initial trip payment, and you must cancel your trip no less than 2 days prior to departure. Cancel For Any Reason can reimburse a portion, typically up to 50%-75%, of your trip cost depending on the plan purchased. A policy with Cancel For Any Reason can cost an additional 40%-60% more than a standard policy, is not available in all states, and eligibility requirements may differ by company.

Question:

The tour director just cancelled our trip to Tuscany. How do I get reimbursed for hotel reservations in Florence Italy?
- MaryB,
03/11/2020

Answer:

You would first want to check with your travel suppliers/hotels to see if they are offering refunds. If you are looking to submit a claim, you would want to contact the claims department of the insurance company that is providing your coverage. You can find the claims contact information on the email conformation that you received when you purchased your plan or in the policy documentation.

Question:

Planning to travel to Mexico in 2020 for a friends destination wedding. Full cost of trip must be paid 4 months in advance. I am only able to request vacation from work AFTER the trip will have been paid, and there is no guarantee I will be granted the time off. If I am not able to get the time off work and need to cancel my trip, is this something that will be covered by the insurance?
- Heather K,
05/20/2019

Answer:

For this concern you will need a policy that includes "Cancel for Any Reason". There are typically 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 -72 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, this benefit will typically reimburse you 75% of your trip cost, unless otherwise noted. To view plans that offer this benefit select the filter labeled "cancel for any reason" on the quote results page.

Question:

Would I be covered if I had to cancel my trip due to an immediate family member's illness and would I be covered for trip interruption for the same reason?
- Joanne,
12/03/2017

Answer:

The number one covered reason for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption is the unforeseen illness or injury of you or a traveling companion that deems you unfit to travel, by order of a licensed physician; or the unforeseen hospitalization or death of a family member. To see all of the covered reasons to cancel or interrupt your trip, please click on the dollar amount that appears under the words "Trip Cancellation" when viewing a quote. Question:

I am traveling internationally in business class with two separate airlines with 2.5 and 3.5 hour stopovers. If one of my flights are delayed such that I miss my connecting flight, what would be the coverage if I need to purchase a ticket to get home or have to stay in a hotel?
- Lisa,
05/20/2017

Answer:

Certain providers offer a Missed Connection benefit for these situations, although most of the providers only offer this if you miss a cruise or tour departure. MH Ross and AXA Assistance USA do not specify that it has to be a tour or cruise departure that is missed due to an airline delay. Please feel free to call us if you would like someone to assist you with a quote over the phone.

Question:

I would like to find a plan that offers an "interrupt for any reason" provision that covers American travel. I am traveling for medical care, but there is a potential that the surgery will be called off, in which case my trip would be shortened. Can you help?
- ChandaM,

Answer:

Unfortunately, you would not qualify for a comprehensive plan if the purpose of your trip is to seek medical treatment.

I would like info on trip cancellation and interruption and baggage delay ONLY. No medical. What plans are available?
- ThomasB,

Unfortunately, we do not have a policy that has those benefits without including medical. You would have to purchase a comprehensive plan if you were interested in travel protection benefits such as trip cancellation and baggage coverage.

Question:

The hotels I have booked are allowed free cancellation 3 - 7 days before my stay with no fees charged. If I need to interrupt my trip and end up being charged by the hotel because free cancellation period has passed, will trip interruption cover the expenses?
- andreaM,
02/18/2017

Answer:

You can only insure the cost of the hotel if its is prepaid and non-refundable prior to departure. If you are not prepaying for the hotel prior to departure, you are not going to be covered for Trip Interruption, unfortunately.

Question:

I have a nonrefundable roundtrip air ticket. If I need to change the return flight, the airline will give me a credit toward another flight, minus a $200 change fee. Therefore, although I must insure the entire cost of my roundtrip ticket, my actual loss will only be $200 (plus additional cost of the new ticket, if any). Will trip interruption coverage at 150% reimburse me $300 for the change fee?
- HeleneB,
01/21/2014

Answer:

It would depend on the plan, since they would all be worded differently. But usually, when there is 150% Trip Interruption, they reimburse for the unused portion of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs and reimburse for the additional transportation expenses incurred to reach the return destination due to one of the covered reasons. You can click on the amount next to Trip Interruption when viewing a plan to read the details of that specific plan.
