Did not realize that all aspects of trip even if they were refundable by the provider, had to be insured in order for the pre-existing conditions waiver to be in effect.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. For residents of Maryland who purchase the RoamRight Essential plan, the exclusion for Pre-Existing Condition will be waived provided:

    1) The policy is purchased within 21 days after making the initial deposit/payment for your trip; and

    2) You insure 100% of the cost of all travel arrangements that are subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions by the travel supplier; and

    3) You or the individual with the Pre-Existing Condition are medically fit to travel when the policy is purchased; and

    4) The booking for the trip is the first and only booking for the travel period and destination.

To be honest, I think it is too expensive for people 70 or over, especially when many people at this age are on fixed incomes. The insurance was more my wife's idea than mine.

GoReady Insurance Choice
Every plan is a good plan until you need to use it. That is when the quality of the plan and company administrator shows its true colors. Thankfully we didn't need to file a claim with April Travel Protection, so that meant we all had a great trip with no problems or health issues.

Thankfully we purchased this insurance, because we ended up needing it. My wife contracted bronchitis a month before our trip. She was still experiencing problems, including breathing difficulties and ear pain from an ear infection, just prior to the trip. We had to cancel the trip and submit a claim. It was processed promptly and we were reimbursed.

    Travel insurance providers offering comprehensive plans will use a few pieces of information to calculate the cost of a policy: age of the travelers, number of travelers, length of travel and the cost of the trip. In general, you should expect a policy will cost anywhere from 4%-10% of your total pre-paid, nonrefundable trip cost.
