I did not like that the plan required all medical costs to be paid by the insuree up front. In the future I will be seeking a plan in which the insurance company is billed directly for medical services exceeding a certain amount, e.g. $500.

This was one of the rare plans that covered the two needs I had 1) $200,000 minimum medical and 2) coverage for accidental injury in amateur sports (I participated in a triathlon shortly before my trip). It was comprehensive but on the expensive side. I did not have to use the plan or call AXA post trip but they were helpful when I called before hand to double check coverage.

I was in touch with the travel assistance team in regards to an issue. They first tried. Then were supposed to call back which was not done in a timely way. In the end they were no help at all and I wound up spending a lot of money on my international phone bill.
