It has taken me almost a year to write this review. When I was searching for trip insurance for my next trip I realized how important an honest review is and decided to write this finally. I was injured on the first full day of a trip to jamaica. Dealing with this insurance company from Jamaica was a nightmare! It took them 12 hours for them just to authorize me being admitted to the hospital (while I lay in the filthy emergency room). Only when the hospital was going to put me in the street did they come through. HOURS were spent on the phone with my family and the Jamaican orthopedic surgeon with this insurance company. Then it took an additional 20 hours for them to authorize my evacuation home and many many more hours of my family AND THE SURGEON arguing with them. After returning home, having surgery by an orthopedic surgeon (this injury caused me to be non weight bearing for 3 1/2 months) and submitting everything for reimbursement of the rest of my trip, did I find out how HORRIBLE this company was. I fought for months with them. Often there was no way to reach them as they wouldn’t answer the phone or they would hang up. When they promised a call back they NEVER called back. I never got nasty with them, but I sure did cry. When they finally sent reimbursement it was 1/5 of what it should have been. I had to file an appeal and wait another 5-6 weeks for additional reimbursement. Even then they shorted me about $700-$800 from what it should have been. I would NEVER EVER use this company again. They were also known as Trip Mate. Customer service was NON EXISTENT. While in the Jamaican hospital we did get assistance from an insure my trip reprentative who told Global Alert that they HAD to provide medical care for me as we had a contract with them, and that helped get me admitted. I would use insure my trip again but never ever Global Alert / Trip Mate. If anyone questions the authenticity of this review I have documents and every note I made for months to back it up. I am HAPPY to share them!

Had a claim and they eventually paid but the process took 4 months and lots of phone calls. Not sure it was worth it considering the time on my part to get paid.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
It's hard to review this product when I didn't actually use it. I think the true test of this product would have been if I had needed to file a claim. While I'm glad that nothing came up which required filing a claim, I can't really say I recommend or don't recommend this. It seemed like a fair price, and looked like it would have covered the things I wanted to have covered.

The plan we chose was the best offered with Cancel for Any Reason for this trip, and using Insure My Trip made it very easy to compare plans. However, the insurer’s claim handling is the thing that really counts, and we have fortunately not had to test them, so who knows if it’s really any good.

Hard to say if the plan was a good one. Until a person files a claim and sees how their claim is handled any feedback is useless. I gave the plan middle marks not because it's not a good plan, but since i didn't file a claim, I really don't know if it's a good plan or not. Given no negative experience with the plan, I would buy it again as it appears to contain the coverage and terms I felt applied to my particular circumstances.

Arch RoamRight Preferred
Plan was purchased because it provided coverage for 5 specific things I was concerned about. Good thing I did my research because we did end up having to file a $600 claim for a covered event. The claim was approved after about three weeks which is a bit longer than I would have wanted, but in all fairness, I felt it was a reasonable amount of time since the claim was submitted right after hurricanes Irma and Maria and I imagine they had a multitude of other claims to process in addition to mine.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Consumers Beware - Do Not Purchase this Company Plan. Before you make your decision - read their policy carefully!!!
The Plan I purchased includes coverage for trip delay at $150 per day - which by default, in all other insurance companies I used in the past - covered the unused part of your prepaid expenses (with a maximum daily limit). However, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company does not cover that and does not explain that in their policy before you purchase it. My flight was canceled and I made it to my destination 24 hours later. I filed a claim due 24 hours delayed arrival to my vacation, but my claim was denied. According to their rules, they only pay for the additional expenses that happened due to the delay, and not the lost unused portion of you package. The way I see it - it is a highway robbery. I had similar situation before with other insurance companies, and even though I did not get the amount I actually lost by prepaying, I did get their maximum per day that was described in the policy. I do not recommend this policy to anyone and will never buy coverage from Nationwide Mutual Insurance company again.

    You had the following coverage for unused nonrefundable trip costs, under Trip Interruption:
    Weather that causes complete cessation of services of the Common Carrier for at least twenty-four (24) consecutive hours
    and prevents You from reaching Your destination.

    You are correct in stating that the Trip Delay coverage is for expenses that you incurred while delayed.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
We traveled from BWI to Jamaica 3/7 - 3/13 and did arrive home to a predicted snow/ice storm, which thankfully, didn't affect our travel. It was good to know that I had this travel insurance just in case!

Travelex Travel Basic
I would recommend Insuremytrip as a great place to compare and purchase plans. I think there is no way to evaluate the coverage until you actually have to file a claim. Then the level of cooperation, responsiveness and ease of process is what matters.... Fortunately I can't answer any of these questions.
