International Medical Group Patriot International Lite
Buying the plan was easy, however, our cruise itinerary made it difficult to determine who would provide coverage since one of our stops is also in the US. We were not sure who would be providing the coverage on the ship between two US stops. I think if someone built a matrix of responsible party after selecting a cruise, it would help buying. It's a lot of development work for the software, but it would be very transparent to the customer.

    In reply to your review, many cruise lines sail under an international flag. As long as you are on the ship, even while in a US port, you would still be considered outside the US. You would only be back in the US when you disembarked the ship back to the US.

    You also indicated that you went on a cruise. You listed a total trip cost for three people when quoting. However, you chose to purchase a Travel Medical plan. Although you may already be aware of this, the only plans we offer that would insure the cost of your trip are the Comprehensive plans since those are the only plans that provide Trip Cancellation coverage. If you had needed to cancel your trip prior to departure or interrupt your trip to return home early, International Medical Group's plan would not have reimbursed you for your prepaid non-refundable travel expenses.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Prime
Our 4-night cruise to Bahamas was plagued by bad weather and rough seas. We were not able to stop at the island nor able to get off the ship during the entire cruise due to torrential rains and winds. Trip interruption / itinerary-change coverage did not cover this because we never left the ship. In order for this coverage to apply, we would have had to leave the ship and not get to have the ship services (ie meals, rooms). Otherwise, it was a comfort to think that we would be protected from major problems, but the details of coverage should be checked out for these types of exceptions/qualifications. For example, if the ship was disabled out at sea for days, no reimbursement would be given.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you experienced bad weather during your cruise. Below is an expert from the Nationwide Mutual Insurance Prime plan explaining the Itinerary Change benefit:

    "In the event a cruise/Travel Supplier makes a change in Your Covered Trip itinerary that prevents You from participating in an event/activity pre-paid prior to departure and scheduled on the Your Covered Trip itinerary, nonrefundable pre-paid event/activity expenses will be payable up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Coverage.

    Benefits will not be paid if the event/activity is rescheduled during the course of the Covered Trip.

    Verification by the Cruise/Travel Supplier of the change in the scheduled Trip Itinerary will be necessary for claim
    payment."
