Didn't have to use it, but it was comforting to have it. We had a near miss when the air traffic controllers staged a 4 hour protest strike in Athens. Fortunately it was a brief stoppage and our flight was only delayed. We were still able to make the connection in NY.

GoReady Insurance Choice
We fortunately did not have to use the insurance so it is difficult to answer the above question. This was our first time to go abroad like this. The insurance seemed very expensive and I talked to other people that went with and paid much less for insurance than we did. I will be more diligent in buying insurance next time and maybe settle for something that does not have such extensive coverage.

MEDEX TravMed Abroad
Travel agent offered our group a "one-size fits all" plan. Group tours are almost never cancelled and lost baggage is also not as much of a problem (especially for large groups on simple itineraries) as it once was so we focused on the issues that could really change our lives. We are retired and both 70 so we purchased a really good medical policy. It costs about $50k if you need an air ambulance evacuation from Europe to the US. This plan covered it and more for a lot less $ than the once-size fits all. Compared to the cost of the trip, this insurance was almost trivial. As it turned out, one of our elderly tour-mates fell and may need medivac from Europe to the US. Hope not but if this is needed, it will be a back breaker for them.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Choice Cruise
I actually appreciate the opportunity to make this review because we are still pleasantly surprised at the wonderful service and prompt coverage of our claim. We booked this insurance 18 months ahead of our travel, and as one part of our travel changed, it was the Nationwide Company representative herself that made us aware that there was coverage for that change. They then provided clear and explicit instructions for forms and how to submit them and then we received our check in less than 10 days.
We can only think that if we had had a true emergency or other difficulty, Nationwide's assistance and claim response would have been equally quick. Based on our interactions with the representatives and fast claim coverage, we highly recommend this company and will definitely look for travel insurance with them again!

AXA Assistance USA Silver
It turns out (in the small print somewhere) that to process a small claim you must first submit your claim to Medicare. I believe Medicare does not cover overseas, but one must go through the process anyway. I believe most all foreign travelers are older and under Medicare, so this effectively drags out the claims process to discourage pursuing a claim and save your company money.
After buying trip insurance a number of times previously, I will never do this again!
I will self insure.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you are dissatisfied with this plan. You are correct in that the AXA Assistance USA Silver plan is a secondary policy. The majority of travel insurance policies are secondary, but InsureMyTrip does offer a selection of primary policies. In the future, please consider calling us prior to purchase so that we can guide you towards policies that best suit your needs.

    Medicare does not cover outside of the United States, but some Medicare Supplement plans do provide some coverage while traveling abroad. If a travel insurance plan is secondary, the insured person(s) would be required to file a claim with the Medicare Supplement first. If coverage is denied or only partially provided, the travel insurance would cover the remainder, up to the policy limit.

We appreciate customer comments and continually use customer feedback to improve our products. At the time of your claim, the silver plan provided coverage secondary to Medicare. The gold and platinum plans serve as primary coverage and it is not necessary to file with Medicare first. In the future, you may call us so we may assist you in finding the best policy and benefits to fit your travel needs."
