Unfortunately, we were not able to go on our trip to Portugal. I called to cancel the insurance in March, for our trip in September, and was told since I had not purchased the “cancel for any reason†insurance i was not entitled to any refund. I felt a refund should have been prorated. Oh well, I guess it’s my fault for not reading the restrictions more carefully. I don’t fault the insurance company.

Like all insurance policies, this was protection should the unexpected befall us. Thus, it is difficult to fully assess my "satisfaction with the plan" since, fortunately, I did not have to file a claim. My husband had the misfortune to become very ill while we were traveling on a trans-Atlantic cruise. After a very thourough visit to the Ships Doctor, he was diagnosed with bronchitis. He required lung X-rays, blood work, antibiotics, and breathing treatments. When we returned to the States, we called about how to submit a claim. It couldn’t have been easier. They emailed us the claim forms and we mailed them back along with the doctors detailed diagnosis and treatments given, and the itemized credit card receipt. We received a full refund within 10 days. We were both amazed and thrilled with the service we received!

We did not need to use our insurance however a woman in our our group had a stroke while in Portugal and had to be hospitalized, etc. I do not know who her insurer was but feel that if this had happened to me or my wife we would have been well taken care of by our Global Alert insurance plan.

"If the Insured is not completely satisfied with the insurance, he or she must notify the Company within 10 days of purchase and return the certificate. The Company will give the Insured a full refund of premium provided he or she has not already departed on the Covered Trip or filed a claim."
Apparently, you also considered canceling your trip and submitting a Trip Cancellation claim but were then advised that you did not have a covered reason as listed in your policy. The specific concern which caused you to cancel your trip would fall under the Cancel For Any Reason option. Sadly, your policy did not include this coverage.
