Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
For the amount we paid, I thought that the 6 month pre-existing exclusion was a lot to pay. I have gotten pre-existing included for less money from other companies.

As you mention, the plan you purchased is generally unable to provide coverage for any losses resulting from pre-existing medical conditions. Coverage for pre-existing medical conditions is available with our Custom Luxe plan provided you purchase your plan prior to or within 24 hours of making final payment and other requirements are met. Purchasing travel insurance was a must for me due to these three elements.
1 Purchasing so far in advance. I purchase in January for an October trip. A lot can happen in nine months.
2 Cost of the trip is over $3000. Although most of my costs didn't occur until I was on the trip (used miles for flights and had hotel bookings that I could cancel without penalty), this plan provided peace of mind.
3 Trip included high activity levels with a med-high possibility of getting hurt/sick (trekking in Peru). The medical portion of this policy was critical.
I was happy with the policy and with the communication from InsureMyTrip. Since I didn't have to use the policy or file a claim, I can't speak to how they are to work with in getting issues resolved. I did feel they were competitively priced.

It's hard to recommend a plan you luckily didn't need to use. The devil is in the details of claims, and since I didn't need to file a claim, I can only attest that I chose this one after reviewing three or four plans, and it was easy to purchase.

My husband and I insured our tour to Macchu Picchu with CSA last March. We stayed overnight at an airport hotel in Lima so that we could leave for Cusco early the next morning. However, after a full day of waiting at the airport, the flight from Lima to Cusco was cancelled by Peru Airlines because of a problem that had occurred two days earlier in Cusco. Two other airlines were able to recover from the problem and make the flights within a day. As a result, we missed the first day of our tour and had to pay for an additional night at the Lima hotel. We filed a claim with CSA and were told that they would investigate with Peru Airlines about why the flight was cancelled. However, because Peru Airlines never responded, they refused our claim. Given how dysfunctional the airline was in meeting its obligations to travelers, I'm not at all surprised that they didn't respond to CSA. However, that doesn't justify CSA's failure to respond and to compensate us. We were repeatedly told that they were investigating, but we never did receive a final explanation--only auto-responses saying that someone would get back to us. No one did. Consequently, I'm disappointed to say that I would never use CSA again.

It actually offered more coverage than we felt necessary for us. It seemed to meet our requirements best of those plans I viewed, though. We decided to go for more, rather than less, coverage.
