Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Every Insurance plan looks good before you need to use it. When it's needed you really get to see what the company is all about. I wIll NEVER chose this company for travel insurance again. My father passed away and we were unable to take the trip we planned. This company just compounded our grief several-fold. Nationwide strung out the claim process, asking repeatedly for information that I wasn't even asking reimbursement for ( airline tickets). Icelandic air reimbursed me within 3 days when I called to cancel the flight due to my fathers death. They did not have to do that but they did. I never requested airline reimbursement from Nationwide. I was assured 2x's with my phone calls and inquiries that they had everything they required and the claim was being processed, and being reviewed by an adjuster. Today the day the check was to be mailed, low and behold another email asking for an airline agreement. Today I was feed up and called INSUREMYTRIP to be my advocate, they contacted the insurers rep and guess what, they again requested the airline agreement that isn't required. Always buy your travel insurance through this agent, then if problems arise you have an advocate. Chose a different provider than Nationwide. As a side note, my fathers life insurance policies all paid before this travel insurance policy.

We are very sorry to hear that your father passed away during your trip and regret that you experienced so many problems in the claims process.
Neither Nationwide nor InsureMyTrip wish to make this process so very difficult especially during such a difficult time.
We are glad to know that a Customer Advocate was able to assist you on your claim and confirm with Nationwide that your check was mailed. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.
Last year I bought a IMG travel insurance plan for a trip to UK/Ireland. I ended up catching COVID and I couldn't board the plane to fly home due to an airline rule that only allowed negative COVID passengers at the time. I had to rebook my flights, book another accommodation to quarantine until I tested negative. I filed a claim and I was reimbursed for all the costs spent on re-booking flights, Airbnb and Uber rides. The process was easy and the timeframe for them to review was reasonable. I am very glad I bought the plan.

The coverage was OK but we were tripped up by the small print. READ IT. READ IT, READ IT, BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER TRAVEL. In middle of trip to Europe one of our party (all vaccinated and boosted) contracted mild Covid. CDC and local health recommendations stated "if you test positive on a lateral flow test but do not feel very ill, self isolate to protect yourself and others and do not travel or mix closely with people in public places until you have most likely cleared the infection, 5 days later, or subsequent tests prove negative. Unless you feel very ill, there is no need to see a doctor". We followed this official advice, canceled one flight and rebooked another for later as well as incurred hotel and other expenses. Assumed this would be covered by Trip Interruption protection. It was not. Despite what official sources say, the insurance policy required a doctor's visit (easy getting an appointment in a pandemic, huh?), a PCR test and an official letter from the doctor advising you not to travel. We did not do this and it cost us about six hundred dollars in change fees, hotel and incidentals. This simply underscores why you should always read the policy carefully to make sure in an emergency you are complying 100% with the policy's terms; common sense is not a substitute for rigid compliance. After a phone call to the claims department I concluded that filing a claim was simply a waste of time . Note: I don't think this is specific to Nationwide.

We filed a claim that took a long time to process (due to lots of COVID-19 claims being filed), but the company kept us informed about the process and why there was a delay. Also, the claims process was fairly easy. They reimbursed us for the entire claim. I would use them again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We are sorry to hear you didn’t have a good experience. Unfortunately, per the policy, the reasons provided for the trip delay claim are not covered, and baggage delay coverage is available only en route to your destination, not when returning home. This is typical of most insurance companies' policies, but we will use your feedback to help clarify these points going forward. Thank you. – Trawick International
