I would use the option to purchase travel insurance more often although I may never use it, if the price of a policy was less than the high % of the trip I recently did. To think that you spent over a $1000 and only got a little piece of mind seems pricey. Maybe the insurance company could do a reduced cost as one uses the company to purchase further travel insurance.

Crum and Forster Travel Insured calculates their Comprehensive Plan premiums based on age of traveler, trip cost and length of trip which is standard for the insurance industry. You did select one of our recommended plans based on our "Smart System" which uses thousands of data points, from a combined 18 years of travel insurance experience, to find the right plan for every traveler, every time. Although this plan was not the least expensive of our Comprehensive plans, it certainly offered your superior coverage at an economical premium.Oct 07,2018

I had always bought trip insurance in the past because of my mother's advanced age and failing health. However, for this trip to Africa, I questioned buying it because my mother had passed away and my husband and I were in great health......no foreseeable reasons to cancel. After debating the pros and cons of buying such a policy, my more conservative side won out and I bought the insurance so I could sleep at night. Then the fractured ankle and the subsequence surgery happened a short time before our departure. Global Alert made the claim process relatively easy. All calls were either handled immediately or calls were returned within the day (usually within the hour). Once I provided all the documentation, we received our check, covering all our expenses, minus what our tour company had refunded to us, within 2-3 weeks. I will never second guess the need for trip insurance for any major trip in the future. I would certainly look to Global Alert Preferred again to provide that coverage.
