We purchased this same plan for our trip to Peru in October 2013, our planned trip to Japan in May 2014, and for our scheduled trip to Africa in September 2015. Before purchasing this plan for these 3 trips, the only other travel insurance we've ever purchased was the type of insurance offered directly through a large travel supplier - usually through a cruise line. We purchased this particular plan primarily for 2 reasons: because it had financial default coverage, and on all 3 trips listed above, we were/are dealing with travel suppliers we have never used before. More importantly, this plan offers the pre-existing condition waiver. Two months prior to our departure for Japan, I had a situation where a herniated disk in my lower back became much worse (after 31 years of managing with minimal pain that never kept me from doing anything), and I suddenly couldn't hardly walk. Upon having an MRI at my doctor's request, followed by an EMG, it was discovered that my herniated disk had essentially overnight become much, much worse. With this trip requiring not only lengthy flights to Japan and back, plus walking everyday, and long train and bus trips on an almost daily basis, my doctor recommended this trip was just no longer a possibility, and that having surgery was my only option other than living in major pain. I just had back surgery this past week - the week that would have been the second week of our trip to Japan! I'd originally purchased this insurance thinking about an 85 year old mother in ill health, and never thought I would have to cancel a trip due to my own health condition. What a relief to have this coverage! After being reimbursed for all but $300 per ticket from United, and being reimbursed 50% of the travel supplier fee, we were still set to be out nearly $8K if we had not had the travel insurance coverage. As it was, we submitted all paperwork required, documented payments; reimbursements to/from travel supplier and airline, signed form from my doctor/surgeon stating my condition and that surgery was warranted, and credit card statements to verify payments on airline tickets and the travel supplier. Within a week of submitting all paperwork, I received an e-mail from Travel Insured stating my case was under review. Within just a few days, I received another e-mail stating my reimbursement check was in the mail, and just a few days after that, I had the check in my hand. What a complete relief! I would not hesitate to purchase this exact plan from Travel Insured again, and as mentioned, we already have it as our coverage for a trip to Africa in Sept 2016. Now I will not plan any future trips (at least none out of the USA) without having travel insurance coverage, and will most likely go with this same plan. Can't say enough good about Travel Insured Protector Lite Expanded, as this plan provided us with exactly the coverage we needed without paying for coverage we felt we did not need.

Given we are 68 and 76 in great physical shape, we felt we paid a premium price ( too high) for us as individuals. Our cost combined was over $1,000. We did "buy peace of mind" which, I guess, is incalculable. We had a wonderful 2-week trip to Japan, with mostly elderly, ages 60-80)...no one had need of medical care.
Is there any way to create an insurance plan that will discount for seniors who get a clean bill of health from their physicians, as we take no meds. and have no physical limitations. I have to say Travel Insured rates were the lowest.... I did like having the rates on one site which made shopping easy; also, your phone people were very knowledgeable and helpful.

I was very satisfied with the plan. It made the trip more enjoyable to know that emergencies were covered if needed. Thanks for being there for us.
