Baggage was lost / delayed. The 24 hr delay in coverage was not usable. It would have cost at least 1 day of my vacation and a few hundred dollars, none of which the plan would cover unless I waited for 24 hrs. This obviously is a function of the plan.

For once I did it right! I took out insurance for an 18-day cycling ride from Kalispell, MT to Albuquerque, NM. I wanted coverage in case I injured during the ride and couldn’t complete it. But while training for the ride I was hit by a truck and injured. The trip was most definitely off.
The coverage was complete. All my expenses were reimbursed including the fee United charged to move my frequent flier miles back into my account. The agent was friendly and reachable. The process was thorough but I thought a little slow. It took over a month from the time I sent in a claim until paid. Not bad but not fast either.

Although I barely missed having to use the insurance for trip delay, it is reassuring that had I needed to stay in a hotel in Los Angeles due to delayed flghts because of thunderstorms, I could be reimbursed. One delayed flight at the beginning of the 3-leg trip home was delayed. This might have caused me to miss the 2nd flight, and a later flight would get in too late to make the 3rd flight to San Luis Obispo, and requiring a stay over in L A for a 6:45 am flight the next day.
