Once the threshold of age 70 was realized, some competing travel insurance plans were extremely expensive for the coverage to Antarctica. General global policy provided necessary coverage at a much more reasonable cost.

The only shortcoming of this plan, like most plans, is it is questionable if it would cover failure of an airline to provide travel due to scheduling failure as has happened 2 or 3 times in the past 2 years, or a failure of air travel infrastructure such as FAA mess up or airport problems.

Very difficult to file a claim. After finally getting the claim to go through and still haven't heard back after over a week. I can't mange what they would be like if you had a emergency over seas.

Often we think that insurance is not necessary. However, on my last foreign trip, a fellow tour trip member (with pre-existing conditions) got sick, was hospitalized, and sadly died. The unthinkable can happen. As my travel group learned about what happened to her, I was thankful to have travel insurance that would supply the support that I or travel companions might need.
