I always purchase travel insurance when visiting Alaska for the peace of mind. Many places and tours are far from a hospital in case of an emergency, but with the insurance, I don't have to worry about the cost of transport if something should happen.

Comprehensive travel insurance policy premiums are based upon the following factors: duration of the trip, ages of the travelers, number of travelers, and the prepaid and nonrefundable trip cost. Typically, a policy is deemed to be of good value when the premium falls between 4-10% of the prepaid and nonrefundable trip cost.
