TRAVEL INSURANCE IS BEST PROTECTION AGAINST QUARANTINE SAYS INSUREMYTRIP.COM

Oct 26th, 2009

WARWICK, RI, October 26, 2009—Recent alerts from the Department of State suggest that one of the greatest risks to travelers today may be who you sit next to on the plane. An unhealthy or coughing seatmate could spell delay for you in places like China and Cuba where U.S. travel alerts warn of government-implemented quarantining of arriving passengers who exhibit fever or flu-like symptoms. While enforced quarantine may be unavoidable, losing your travel investment isn’t.

“Quarantined travelers stand to lose a lot unless they’re properly insured,” explains Jim Grace, President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com. “The time you spend in quarantine means time lost enjoying your trip, unused hotel reservations, missed pre-paid planned activities, and possibly a future one-way ticket home. Travel insurance protects your financial investment so you don’t pay for an itinerary you can’t follow as planned.”

“Quarantine coverage is provided by most insurance companies,” continues Grace, “but it’s important to know the details of your policy as they vary by company and plan. Some companies provide quarantine benefits only if you are sick while others provide benefits if you are not sick but singled out because you were traveling with or near to someone who is ill.”

Trip Cancellation Package Policies offer the broadest protection, including coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, baggage and travel delay, as well as medical and emergency evacuation. In a situation of quarantine, the first coverage activated in these policies is usually travel delay, which provides reimbursement for overnight hotel stays and meals during the quarantine. In the event you are sick however, other components of coverage in the policy are triggered including medical and trip interruption.

“Over the past few months, InsureMyTrip’s Customer Care Center has been inundated with a host of consumer questions about travel insurance coverage for H1N1 influenza including options to cancel trips to areas impacted by the virus before departure,” says Grace. Cancel For Any Reason is the only coverage that enables the traveler to cancel their trip for fear of contracting Swine Flu. This coverage is included in some Package Policies and offered as an optional add-on with others.

Travel insurance can’t prevent things from going wrong, but it can help ease your travel woes and get your journey back on track.Whether you simply need one question answered or would like step-by-step assistance selecting the best travel insurance policy for your needs, InsureMyTrip.com’s expert Customer Care team can help. TRAVEL INSURANCE IS PREREQUISITE FOR STUDENTS TRAVELING ABROAD SAYS INSUREMYTRIP.COM

Sep 15th, 2009

WARWICK, RI, September 15, 2009—As growing numbers of students plan to spend academic semesters abroad, more and more parents are taking precautions to protect them while they’re away from home. With the H1N1 Swine Flu pandemic dominating headlines, student health and well being are priority one.

“Travel insurance is a ‘must have’ for students spending time abroad because it provides coverage where many traditional healthcare plans leave off,” explains Jim Grace, President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com. “Many national healthcare plans provide only partial coverage for their members when they travel outside the U.S., and some don’t provide any coverage at all. Parents and students should check with their healthcare provider before venturing outside the U.S. to learn exactly how their policy will respond in the event of a medical emergency.” If additional coverage is needed, InsureMyTrip.com recommends travel medical, medical evacuation and/or cancel for any reason protection:

Travel Medical: Providing emergency medical coverage in the event of injury or illness, travel medical insurance policies are the most popular plans purchased for students going abroad. These plans also provide emergency medical evacuation coverage for transport to a proper care facility and can be purchased for travel up to a year in length.

Medical Evacuation: This coverage can be purchased as a stand alone policy or it may be included in comprehensive travel policies. It provides evacuation to the nearest appropriate care facility or, in some cases, to your hospital of choice depending on the company and plan.

Cancel For Any Reason: A prudent selection for those seeking to protect their trip investment, this coverage provides protection if you elect to cancel your study abroad trip before embarking. Some plans include this coverage and others offer it as an optional add-on. Canceling a trip due to fear of contracting Swine Flu, would ONLY be covered if you have Cancel for Any Reason coverage (CFAR). CFAR will allow you to:

  • Cancel up until 2 days prior to departure.
  • You may receive between 50%-100% reimbursed trip cost (varies by company).
  • Policy must be purchased within 10-21 days (varies by company) of your first trip payment or deposit to qualify for this coverage.

“For a small fraction of the trip cost, travel insurance provides real protection to students overseas and priceless peace of mind to their parents at home,” says Grace. Whether you simply need one questioned answered or would like step-by-step assistance selecting the best travel insurance policy for your needs, InsureMyTrip.com’s expert Customer Care team can help. TOP TEN NEED-TO-KNOW TRAVEL INSURANCE TERMS FROM INSUREMYTRIP.COM

Aug 19th, 2009

WARWICK, RI, August 19, 2009—For many people, insurance can seem like a foreign language that only those fluent in ‘insurance speak’ can understand. To master the art of insurance appreciation however, you don’t need instruction from RosettaStone or Berlitz, just a little help from InsureMyTrip.com.

“Travel insurance like all insurance is complex,” explains Jim Grace President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com, “but a fundamental understanding of industry terms and phrases that commonly cause confusion, can clear up some of the mystery.  At InsureMyTrip.com, one of our key goals is to help travelers understand travel insurance, and that means starting with the basics.” These are the top ten travel insurance terms that every consumer should know as they prepare to purchase trip protection for their upcoming travels:

  1. A.M. Best Ratings— Industry watchdog A.M. Best rates and assesses insurance companies’ financial strength and ability to meet their obligations to policyholders. InsureMyTrip.com features a user-friendly monitoring tool for consumers to check the A.M. Best Ratings of all the leading U.S. travel insurance companies before you purchase coverage.
  2. Unforeseen– means not anticipated or expected and occurring after the effective date of the policy.
  3. Primary—This section of the policy will pay FIRST, before any other collectible insurance.
  4. Secondary—This section of the policy will pay you after any other Primary collectible insurance has paid the claim and the Primary policies’ limits have been exhausted.
  5. First Trip Payment Date–This is the date that money first exchanged hands for the trip you want to insure. This is the date the check is written, not the date it is cashed.
  6. Pre-existing Medical Condition Waiver—Many policies have a pre-existing medical exclusion, meaning that coverage is not available for pre-existing medical conditions. A Pre-existing Medical Condition Waiver essentially deletes that exclusion and extends your policy to cover pre-existing condition-related risks. To be eligible for a Pre-Existing Medical Condition Waiver, the majority of travel insurance policies require that you purchase your policy within 10 to 21 days of your first trip payment date and insure for the full amount of your non-refundable travel arrangements.
  7. Look Back Period– This is the number of days that the insurance company will ‘look back’ from the date the insurance was purchased to see if your claim is related to a pre-existing medical condition. The Look Back Period varies by company and plan and does not apply if you qualified for the Pre-existing Medical Condition Waiver offered by many plans.
  8. Cancel For Any Reason–This is an optional benefit that empowers travelers to cancel trips for any reason including sudden unemployment, schedule conflicts, even bad weather, up to two days prior to departure. Cancel For Any Reason policies vary by company and must be purchased within 10-21 days of your first trip payment date.
  9. Financial Default– This is a benefit that is part of Trip Cancellation/Interruption coverage. This protection applies if the airline, cruise line, or tour operator goes out of business and you are unable to travel as a result or suffer financial loss. Since this coverage is time sensitive, you must purchase a policy within 10 – 21 days (varies by company) of your first trip payment date. All of the plans that contain this benefit have a 7-30 day waiting period from the time of purchase before becoming effective. Typically, if you purchase travel insurance directly through a travel supplier such as an airline, cruise line, or tour operator, you cannot protect yourself should that travel supplier go bankrupt or become financially insolvent, so it is always best to purchase your travel insurance protection from a third-party source.
  10. Travel agent vs. Tour Operator–A Travel Agent is someone who books flights, cruises and tours. A Tour Operator is a company which specializes in the organizing and operation of pre-planned vacations which are usually sold to the public through travel agents.

NEW DATA FROM PREMIER TRAVEL INSURANCE COMPARISON SITE INSUREMYTRIP.COM SHOWS CONSERVATIVE TRAVEL IS THE NEW NORMAL

Jun 30th, 2009

WARWICK, RI, June 30, 2009—Travel consumers have become conservative consumers reports InsureMyTrip.com, the leading online travel insurance comparison site. Citing data from a Q1 ’08 vs. Q1 ’09 sales analysis, the travel insurance aggregator notes several new statistics that indicate travelers are taking a more measured, thoughtful approach to travel planning.

The data clearly points to:

  • Shorter vacations: While all travel is down in 2009, extended holidays of two to four weeks saw the largest decline at nearly 15%.
  • Cost-conscious travel: The number of trips costing more than $2,000 fell by 25%. Overall, average trip costs decreased 12%.
  • Compressed planning: Travel insurance consumers are purchasing coverage closer to their departure date. On average, insurance is now purchased 62 days before departure, a decrease of 11%.
  • Longer stays, more protection:  In a separate InsureMyTrip survey, customers noted insuring 68% of trips lasting eight days or more, whereas 30% of week-long trips and just 18% of weekend trips were protected.

“Given the tough economic climate, it stands to reason that travelers are taking more precautionary measures,” notes Jim Grace, President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com. “Money is tight for a lot of people right now and job security is a concern for some. Taking less costly, shorter vacations, holding out for super-saver deals, and making sure that any travels are protected with travel insurance, are practical strategies for dealing with the new ‘normal’ of travel today.  We are encouraged to see that people are in fact getting back to traveling and that travel insurance is now a ‘must have’.”

One of the best and easiest ways to ‘save’ money on travel is to protect your trips with travel insurance. “Start by shopping around,” advises Grace. Everyone’s travel needs are different, but InsureMyTrip.com offers all the leading U.S. travel insurance companies on one site so you can do side-by-side comparisons of policies and prices quickly and easily. “Travel insurance is your best defense against many of the most common risks affecting travel today,” adds Grace, “and the wide variety of available plan choices enables you to select the plan that best fits your budget and travel needs.”

DON’T LET HURRICANE SEASON 2009 BLOW YOUR VACATION PLANS AWAY

Jun 16th, 2009

Protect Your Trips with Travel Insurance From InsureMyTrip.com

WARWICK, RI, June 16, 2009–Experts at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center anticipate a near average 2009 Hurricane Season with a 70 percent chance of nine to fourteen named storms and up to three major hurricanes, Category 3 or higher. This forecast can’t say however, where or when these storms will form, which land areas will be impacted or at what intensity. That’s why, as always, the best way to prepare for the June through November hurricane season is to plan ahead.

“Now is the time to get a hurricane plan,” advises Dennis Feltgen, spokesperson for NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida. “The only number that matters is the number one….the one storm that could hit you this season. You need to prepare now and not when the storm is bearing down on you.”

“For travelers, that plan should include travel insurance protection for all your upcoming summer vacations, family cruises, and fall travels,” adds Jim Grace, President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com, the premier online travel insurance comparison site. “Travel insurance is a prudent investment that provides peace-of-mind protection against severe weather. The key is to plan ahead and purchase travel insurance before a tropical storm or hurricane is identified as possibly affecting your itinerary.”

“Equally as important, travelers should know that coverage for weather-related trip cancellations and interruptions differ significantly by company and plan,” continues Grace. The coverage spectrum includes:

  • Weather Cancellation: when common carriers such as airlines and cruise lines stop travel to a particular destination due to weather.
  • Cancellation due to Hurricane Warning: cancellation of your trip if your destination is under a NOAA-issued hurricane warning.
  • Destination made Uninhabitable: if your hotel, resort, or vacation rental is devastated by a storm.
  • Primary Residence made Uninhabitable: your own home sustains destructive storm damage.
  • Cancel for Any Reason: an optional benefit that allows you to choose whether or not to cancel.

TRAVEL INSURANCE PIONEER INSUREMYTRIP.COM BREAKS NEW GROUND

Jun 3rd, 2009

Premier Comparison Site’s Advanced New Website Makes Buying Travel Protection Even Easier for Travelers

WARWICK, RI, June 3, 2009— InsureMyTrip.com, the consumers-choice website for travel insurance since 2000, has unveiled a major site redesign that makes it easier than ever for customers to get quotes, compare insurance plans, and buy the plan that meets a traveler’s specific needs with confidence. Featuring more than 100 plans from 22 leading U.S. and Canadian companies, InsureMyTrip.com is the premier online travel insurance comparison site for leisure and business travelers.

“From the outset, one of our key goals has been to help travelers understand travel insurance,” explains Jim Grace, President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com.  “In fact the clarity and presentation of plan information is what keeps many of our customers coming back time and time again. It’s important to know that travel insurance plans change all the time and the plan that you purchased last year or even six months ago may not be the same plan today. Our enhanced site has been innately tuned to take the mystery out of travel insurance and present plans with transparency to the traveling public.”

One challenge was to create an entirely new advanced system on the back-end and improve our user interface for customers; all while conducting a seamless transition between the new and the original website which remained fully operational throughout this process. “What began several years ago as an innovative idea is now a reality thanks to the incredible skills and efforts of our dedicated staff.”
So what does InsureMyTrip’s enhanced design and performance mean to consumers?  “Visually www.insuremytrip.com is very similar to the original site. Significant changes to the research and quote features however will heighten the user experience and further raise consumer confidence.” A few of these modifications include:

  • Simpler navigation and quote form so you can find information and get your quotes faster. Plus ‘help’ content throughout the quote has been revised and new ‘help’ windows have been added for extra assistance.
  • More informative search results let you sort and focus quote results the way you want including by company, coverage, or cost.
  • More readable plan comparisons. We have reorganized comparative elements and data to provide coverage information in clear, concise terms and make it easier to find what you’re looking for faster.
  • Streamlined purchase and verification so you can be confident that your insurance purchase is exactly the protection you need.

“InsureMyTrip.com’s evolutionary developments give travelers all the travel insurance information they need clearly, quickly, and easily,” concludes Grace. To learn more about the protection plans that best suit your travel needs, visit www.insuremytrip.com or call (800) 487-4722 to speak with one of our licensed travel insurance professionals.

INSUREMYTRIP.COM INFORMS TRAVELERS OF INSURANCE COMPANIES RESPONSE TO SWINE FLU

Apr 28th, 2009

WARWICK, RI, April 28, 2009—The Department of State today issued an alert recommending that American citizens avoid all nonessential travel to Mexico at this time due to a recent outbreak of Swine Flu. While the details of this global health concern continue to evolve, InsureMyTrip.com is reminding travelers of the benefits of investing in travel insurance.

“Right now, we are monitoring the Swine Flu situation in real time and its impact on travelers and travel insurance,” explains Jim Grace, President and CEO of InsureMyTrip.com, the leading travel insurance comparison website. “There is coverage for Swine Flu on travel insurance policies and InsureMyTrip.com is the absolute best resource for this information.  We urge both current customers and future customers to monitor our blog www.insuremytrip.com/blog/ on this issue or to contact our Customer Care team with specific questions.” InsureMyTrip’s Customer Care team of expert licensed representatives is available by phone at 800-487-4722 and online at www.insuremytrip.com seven days a week, Monday through Friday 7 AM to Midnight, Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM ET.

Featuring more than 100 plans from all the leading U.S. travel insurance companies, InsureMyTrip has prepared a summary of company information explaining each company’s initial response to the Swine Flu outbreak.  “Things are happening quickly,” notes Grace. “Travelers should be aware that as the situation changes, details and descriptions of actual policies may also be adjusted.”

Access America
As of Friday, April 24th, 2009, the Swine Flu outbreak was considered a known event due to its widespread media attention. Any Mondial Assistance or Access America policies sold on or after April 24th will not provide coverage for any claims related directly or indirectly to the outbreak of the flu in Mexico, or any other area, as this is considered a known event. All other coverage in our products remain in place.
Additionally, our products may exclude coverage under the General Exclusions for claims arising directly or indirectly from epidemics or pandemics.

American Express
Trip cancellations, trip interruptions or medical evacuations and expenses due to the covered person’s contraction of the Swine Flu may be covered (one particular exception would be the policy’s pre-existing condition clause). However, there will generally not be coverage for cancellation or interruptions due to the outbreak unless the covered person is inflicted with the virus. Note trip cancellation or interruption exclusions, including any prohibition by or regulation of the government, or an event which happens prior to the Coverage Effective Date.

CSA
CSA policies offer coverage if a covered individual, their traveling companions or their family members need to cancel or interrupt their trip due to a covered sickness, injury or death. Covered individuals may have coverage for illnesses arising from this event as described in their Certificate of Insurance or Insurance Policy.

Global Alert!
The plan covers trip cancellation and trip interruption (and travel delay in case of the travelers own Sickness) due to a specified person contracting Swine Flu, which has occurred during the coverage period. However, there is no coverage for the possibility of a Sickness which may or may not occur at some future time. Cancellation, interruption or delay of a trip due to concerns about swine flu is not covered, either as a Sickness or as a Covered Event.

Note that the plan excludes loss due to epidemic or pandemic. At this point, the situation is neither an epidemic nor a pandemic, but be aware of this exclusion as the situation could change.

If the insured purchased Cancel For Any Reason Benefit, he/she will be covered if all of the requirements are met.

International Medical Group
Individuals purchasing plans have coverage for claims resulting from Swine Flu. However, an individual who decides to cancel a trip because he or she is afraid of contracting Swine Flu would not be an eligible expense. Even though this is a known event there is still coverage regardless of when the plan was purchased.

MH Ross
There is coverage for an insured to cancel/interrupt their trip if they (or their family members/traveling companion) become ill with Swine Flu or if they are quarantined due to Swine Flu. In either case, the policy must have been purchased prior to contracting or being quarantined for the flu, and the appropriate medical documentation would need to be submitted to support the sickness and/or quarantine. There is no coverage under Trip Cancellation or Interruption to cancel or interrupt a trip due to fear of contracting Swine Flu.
Medical expenses incurred if an insured requires medical treatment for Swine Flu while on a covered trip are covered.

RBC Travel Protection
The Swine Flu outbreak is not a covered event unless the insured or insured’s family member actually gets sick. Coverage is afforded as long as the illness was not pre-existing.
If the insured changes his/her destination or travel period, we will also change the travel dates on the original policy if so desired. The dollar amount insured may also need to be adjusted to match the new travel period. If the insured decides to cancel his/her trip altogether, we will offer a full refund of their policy including the processing fee. However, fear of traveling is not a covered risk for claim purposes.

Seven Corners
Covered individuals diagnosed with Swine Flu by a treating physician are covered for trip cancellation, interruption and medical (standard coverage terms and exclusions apply). However, cancellation due to fear of getting Swine Flu is not covered unless the insured has Cancel For Any Reason optional coverage.

Travel Guard
The insured is covered if he/she contracts Swine Flu and needs to cancel or interrupt the trip due to the illness. The insured would also be covered if he/she incurs medical expenses on a trip due to contracting Swine Flu and purchased their insurance prior to becoming infected with the flu.
Travel Guard would only cover trip cancellation due to fear of contracting Swine Flu (including a planned trip to Mexico) if the insured purchased the Cancel For Any Reason optional coverage.

Travel Insured International
Trip cancellation / interruption is covered for specific events listed in the Description of Coverage for our plans. Swine flu is not one of those events and it is not a reason supported by Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption coverage, unless the insured purchased the optional Cancel For Any Reason benefit.
Emergency sickness medical expenses and emergency medical evacuation for all necessary medical events, including those resulting from an insured traveler’s contraction of Swine Flu, would be covered.
If an insured is subjected to an imposed quarantine as the result of Swine Flu, trip delay benefits will apply as normally specified in each plan’s Description of Coverage.

TravelSafe

TruTravel Insurance
Swine Flu is treated as any other illness. You cannot cancel or interrupt for fear of Swine Flu. You can however cancel or interrupt if you become ill with Swine Flu. Coverage is afforded as long as the illness was not pre-existing.
